Learning now why I should still have a hardwired alarm system like ADT, Ring seems to be having issues and both my doorbell and cameras outside are down, going to take a wild guess hackers and thieves are hacking the system on a day where a lot of people just happen to be traveling out of town.

My ring doorbell has been dead for at least 4 hours now. status.ring.com reports a system wide outage. Package thieves are having a field day today.
I really need to look into non-cloud based systems like the Eufy doorbell now.

My doorbell and cameras just came back online, no way this is a coincidence this happened on one of the biggest travel days and also when people are getting tons of packages from Black Friday deals, definitely a hack.

If you get one, make sure you disable the "Sidewalk" (wifi sharing) feature that is being enabled by default. For some reason Amazon thinks we want to share our home internet connection with anyone that has an Amazon IOT device.
I don't see this "feature" in my Ring app. Where should I be looking?

Nevermind. I found it under Control Center. Mine is not enabled so nothing for me to do.

Amazon AWS outage today, several sites and services are down today, probably took down Ring with it

Their subscription plan is waste of money. I have stopped paying them and now its nothing but an expensive doorbell. Also i had never been able to talk to anyone through the doorbell. By the time i open the app, person may already be gone. Get Blink instead. No extra cost on top of the device. This is my personal experience.
Not free for long. Blink will start charging subscription for videa recording and cloud storage starting January 2021

"When you set up your Blink camera, you will automatically get a free trial of the premium subscription plan effective from your date of purchase through January 13, 2021. Once your free trial has ended, you can subscribe through Amazon.com to continue receiving these features."

Anyone know if the housing on these can be painted? Not sure how satin nickel would look against darker brick.
There are different faceplates cream, nickel, and dark bronze I believe.

For whatever reasons, I'm able to use my existing power supply even when we use a mechanical chime. And one of my buddies is also on the same boat. I guess we just got lucky that we didn't have to monkey around with replacing one.

Our power supply, according to Ring, should not be able to power it, BTW. I guess, you'd never know.
That's what I said before I had to replace my doorbell at around 12 months. You either already have a beefy transformer (not super likely) or you will be slowly killing your doorbell's internal battery with your standard transformer (most likely). If your transformer doesn't have at least 30VA then you will have random problems like dropouts and wifi issues until one day your doorbell will be dead. Do yourself a favor and upgrade yourself transformer. Get a plug-in model if you are not confident going in your breaker box.

Thanks for the info. Now you got me worried. Just to confirm, you have this issue with the Pro version right? I know that it has a small irreplaceable battery in it.

I haven't had any issue with wifi dropouts just yet. May I know what other telltale signs did you have before the device died? TIA

Yes, the Pro and the Elite are the only two hard wired doorbells to my knowledge. The hardwiring is really only to charge the internal battery which powers the unit. It might not even drop out or lose wifi for you, at least not that you notice.
The internal battery will run out of juice with lots of usage such as camera viewing infrared lighting, object detection, etc. eventually the internal battery depletes as the low powered transformer can't keep up with the power demand. I can't say for sure, but I suspect that a standard 10VA transformer causes the internal battery and its charging circuits to break down faster by constantly being in a charge condition, where as a a 30 or 40 VA will top it off and chill out quicker.
Do some googling on it. By the way, this is the best reason to go with the Costco deal for these. They will take it back no questions when it fails. And it will fail.

Do you get two boxes - one for the ring and one for the chime, or is this new packaging that includes both?
