It's USB 3.2 Gen 1, which is capped at 5Gbps. To get the full 10Gbps, you need USB 3.2 Gen 2 which it seems only SSD externals have. Not worth the extra price imo. A 2tb can cost you $250 in most cases.
Isn't 3.2 supposed to be USB-C?
I would choose USB-C over micro USB any day

I grabbed one of these recently, thinking I'd be able to install some PS4 games on it, and then also use it to e.g. back stuff up from my computers -- Nope.

However the PS4 "prepares" the drive for its use assimilates the whole drive, killing any existing partitions, and makes it unreadable to Windows. No options to choose a partition or tell it how much of the drive to use.
Use partition magic (google it) you will have it running in 3 minutes

Would this be fine for a PS5/Xbox Series X to play backwards compatible games or is an SSD much better?
An SSD would be much better, but also much more expensive. I personally am using an HDD for storage, and then transferring the main games I play to the internal

No, you can't partition a drive for PS4 and PC.

FYI: Non-shuckable, USB connector is soldered on where the SATA connector is. Amazon review pictures show it.
Thanks in market to setup my first NAS and looking for shacable drives.
I guess Red WD will come on sale during BF.

Yes, but it's not a straightforward process. I run Windows off an external SSD but you have to look up some online tutorials to get your Mac to EFI boot (USB)

Does the black indicate performance or reliability
Yes, both. Blue is bargain line, green is low power consumption, red is long term durability but slow for use as backup drive/NAS/etc. Black is what you want for good durability, fast reads/writes.

Are you moving any game you play to the internal or just the ones that require it (Series optimized). Do non optimized games show differences for you?

I'm not sure I understand why this is any better than the $90 WD 5TB on sale the other day. This seems like a "gamer" drive that's only a gamer drive because of branding...
Was that drive a black model as well?

Is reliability affected by the increased handling/kicking/tossing vs. pick-up?

I'm using it now on PS5 with no issues. Load times are good as well for all my PS4 games.

I don't play a ton of games at once, so I'm moving the main games to the internal as I'm playing through them. This includes BC games

Welcome to PS4. LMAOLMAOLMAO It formats it in a proprietary way.
