Your best bet is to buy the fountain and tell the kitty he or she can't drink out of it. As soon as he(or she) realizes you don't want them to drink out of it, it will be their primary watering spot.

If we're being honest, both companies are horrible. If you really want your $ to do some good, either A) support a local small business with your purchase or B) take some of the money you saved on SD and donate to a local non-profit. Amazon links can helpful due to the free shipping and 5% back for folks with Amazon Prime card.
Back on topic, some of the reviews on Amazon indicate poor pump lifespan and quality control issues. I'm in the market for a fountain, but I think this might be a bit to cheaply built for my taste
All the recent hatred I've heard towards any retailer has been mostly Amazon — overworked warehouses, stack-ranked employee reviews, harsh and random firings, widespread burnout. Meanwhile Walmart has been touting raises and bonuses.
I'm not picking sides, but seems like Amazon is the whipping boy for retail over the past couple years.
