I have owned three of these in the past, but none of them lasted more than a year or two. My last was a Battery Tender brand with a lithium battery... Because I have nothing smaller than a 6 cylinder engine, it is nearly useless for jump starting after 2 years. I'm pulling the trigger on this one, only because I'm buying it from sam's, and I'm purchasing the extended warranty because I expect to fall back on it within three years. The reviews run from one extreme to the other, so I am hoping that quality control is the worst issue with this model.

I bought 2 of these for my family about 3 years ago. They worked great to start with. I jumped a strangers car and filled my tires when the cold weather came. I ended up buying one for a friend as a gift. This last August, both stopped working for seemingly different reasons. One couldn't hold a charge and would die out when pumping air. It wouldn't even work when plugged into an outlet. The other one's tire pressure sensor doesn't work anymore, so that functionality is gone. I love the idea of these and they worked perfectly for a few years, but it seems like many people eventually run into the battery problem given how it's built.

Thank you. I agree, the extra $9 for the 3-year SquareTrade warranty on this item would be a wise choice.

The Battery Tender one was no good? I'm in the market for a small, lithium one and the reviews for that one seem to be overwhelmingly positive, and not fake reviews like all the chinese offbrands.

I just looked up my purchase of this, it was less than 2 years old last month when I tried to jump start my 6-cylinder 4.2 l trailblazer. It also never reaches full charge, going by its LED indicators. I dropped my Amazon review to one star. Because it claimed to have an AGM battery, and is considerably larger and heavier than many of those lithium jumpstarters you are referring to, I had hoped for better results from the Battery Tender 1200 amp over time. I'm surprised that it rates so we'll, maybe it's the same quality control problems as most other jump starters.
Update:. I was unaware that battery tender now markets a thousand amp lithium battery pack that is similar to other small lithium battery packs. It retails for less than the battery tender 1,000 amp AGM jump starter that I purchased 2 years ago. I would definitely buy the lithium battery pack over the agm, taking a chance that it is of better quality than the agm.

Oh, you're talking about that one. I was talking about the small, lithium Battery Tenders that come in 600, 800, 1000 Amps. All the big ones seem to have an issue with the batteries losing charge permanently without some sort of maintenance. At any rate, I'm personally looking for a tiny one because I just don't have that much room in my car and I have enough stuff shaking around in my small trunk. I decided to go with a small, lithium Stanley (PowerToGo) with a led screen from Walmart with decent reviews, some bad. I usually don't buy warranties, but I think I'm gonna buy it for this, it's only like $4 for 3 years.

Same here on extended warranties, but I decided to get a couple of these big Stanley s as gifts, along with the square trade add ons. The battery tender lithium jumpstarter is $90, which is $10 cheaper than their AGM model, but I suspect that the quality is no better than the noname brands selling for half as much. I will still keep jumper cables in each vehicle, though.

I got one of these for father's day 2 years ago. I still use it, but I have many issues with it. It's beyond the point where I can return it, but it has some use.

First and foremost, the air compressor. Something's wrong with the mechanism that detects PSI. I have used it on my car and my wife's car. There's 1 tire on my car and 2 tires on my wife's car where the PSI is totally wrong and therefore, it won't inflate the tire. What I've resorted to is cranking it all the way up to about 125 psi and then using both car's TPMS sensors with the car running to see where I am on the PSI. That's my workaround.

Second, the jump start still works. Seems I have to jump start a car a few times a year and it works fine.

Third, this thing will not turn off. Before, there was a timeout period where this thing would auto shut down. Not anymore. If I unplug it, the LCD screen stays on. It will never turn off. Therefore, there's a slow drain in the battery. My workaround here is just leaving it plugged up to the wall and pulling it anytime I go on a long road trip. It's annoying as heck.

The only other time I've used this is for the flashlight function/USB charge. I have 2 little kids and when there's a power outage, they get scared and candles in the house don't do enough. The flashlight is bright and since this is portable, I can also keep our cell phones charged. I've had power outages that lasted over 12 hours, so it was enough to keep a room illuminated and allowed my family to use their cell phones and ipads for a period of time.

Oh and one time, I was push mowing my lawn, but I started too late and it got dark when I was 50% done where I couldn't see anything anymore. I didn't want to mow the next day, so I strapped this thing to my push mower and mowed my lawn with the flashlight. Haha!

garbage!
Literally just returned mine today. Bought it last Dec, charged it up the day I bought it, went to use it today (12/5), and once I started the compressor the battery instantly drained!

Just got home from returning it. I am also not pleased with Sam's club.... if I had not been within my 1yr window they would have told me to 'kick rocks'. I remember last year returning a stud finder I had bought a few years earlier that was defective out of the package but too lazy to return it and they took it back no questions asked!

As for this product... AVOID!
