I just want to share my experience with Darn Tough socks. I'm the type of guy that spends $20 for 6 pairs usually and have to buy every year. I'm also the type that has sweaty feet and occasionally active.

I ordered 3 pairs of no-show socks (2 light cushion, 1 no cushion) earlier this year and my wife thought I was crazy. I told her it would be worth it. Within 2 months, the no cushion pair wore out completely at the ball of my foot on both socks. I literally did NO PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. Figured I had a unlucky pair.

Warranty process was easy. Filled out some info online, sent back in an old amazon padded envelope. After a week or so, got an email saying I get a credit to buy new socks from their website, shipping included.

Then a couple weeks later, I noticed my other 2 light cushion pair are also losing all the material at the ball of my foot.

I will be sending back these 2 pairs as well, but I'm curious if it will be less money than the first. One of the questions to start warranty process is "when did you purchase?" so it might be a pro-rated credit to their site?

I know everyone on this site loves them, I gave it a shot, but they might not be for everyone.

DG Hill socks from Amazon have 80% of wool and are $20 for three pairs. The highest percentage of wool in DT socks is 66% in Darn Tough Hiker Boot Full Cushion, and they are $16.50 a pair. What am I missing?

Nope, DT has lifetime guarantee...
I've bought Darn Tough and I like them.

The reason why they can do the lifetime warranty is because they have a super strong woven base. They just don't get holes the way most other socks - even expensive socks - do. (This strong woven base also means the socks fit fairly tightly on your feet and ankles - which not everyone will like.)

But, what's happened with one pair - the pair I wear the most and have had for 5+ years - is the fibers around this woven base have worn off. So no hole - but the color's different. This is on the sole of the sock where there's the most wear, but it's expanding gradually. Actually, a tiny hole has developed - but the base seems to prevent it from easily grown bigger.

Needle size, fit, durability, and lifetime warranty.

Higher wool isn't necessarily better. Wool is fragile and needs to be mixed with other stronger synthetic fibers. I have a few pairs of 80+% socks that feel much more delicate compared to my 60% damn tough socks. Darn tough socks also use a tight weave which helps increase durability. The lifetime warranty is another reason for the high price.

What about the sizing? If I'm in between sizes, am I better going up? I hate that there's no free return shipping on these if they don't fit well.
Definitely size up on the no cushion socks. The light cushion stretch a little bit more and you can go either way depending on the type of fit you want.

As a true SD fan it kills me to pay this much for socks even when they are this "cheap" I had a friend that swore by these socks and their replacement policy. I bought two pair at full price from Amazon a couple of seasons ago and they really are that good. Just amazing. Just bought four pair. Kills me to pay that much, but I have never worn such good socks. Well worth the price.

I am a 10.5. The L are a little to small and the XL a little to large. I would go up, not down. But I still love em.

The additional coupon makes this a great deal, the no minimum free shipping at Socksaddict.com is also nice. I have used Darn Tough's warranty twice now, and it worked great. The only expense is to ship my worn socks back. Their socks last at least 4-5 years. Love them!

Huge fan of these socks... also +1 for great customer service at socks addict. I forgot to apply the promo code. Customer service requests can be made by replying directly to the confirmation email.

They refunded the difference of adding the promo code within 20min of my request.

I am between sizes also. Definitely go up unless you like your socks fit very snugly.
