There won't be a better price on these brand new controllers for a while. I enjoy mine that I bought a couple weeks ago full price. It has better tactile grip underneath and can charge via usb c on top. Kind of a downer on that as my charge station is for micro usb but such is the way of technology I guess.
ive found it very convenient that i can use my USB c cell phone charger to my controller to recharge. Im Thankful they updated the port.
Trying to figure out which controllers are old Gen. How about the black one someone linked to with the USB C cable? Since it uses USB C does that mean its new Gen.?

Contacted Target to PM the ones I JUST bought for them at launch - still haven't opened them luckily.
Because Microsoft is not listed as a competitor, they refused. They also said because the site asks you to sign up (even though that's just a pop-up you can close) they can't honor a PM.
Looks like I'll be returning 3 xbox controllers to Target. *shrug
If it was $5 I wouldn't do the swap, but $60+? This is kind of a no brainer. No one's going to keep them if it saves them that much. Bad policy.
Also Microsoft isn't a competitor for Microsoft products? Yikes.
The rep was nice enough and I don't want to ruin anyone's day, but I imagine Target and anyone else who doesn't PM this is just going to get their accessories back - or the ones from Microsoft that show up next week in their place.
Never underestimate an illogical corporate policy!

Just look at the d pad. New gen is circular. Old is a t.

There is one that comes with a usb c cable. Wish I saw it before I ordered. About to cancel now.
The cable is fully optional for this controller. Unlike PlayStation controllers that use USB cable for charging, Xbox controllers use AA batteries and cannot be charged with USB, and works wirelessly with Bluetooth or dongle for PC people.
It can still be used as a standard USB-C data cable (USB 2.0 speed) for wired connection or other devices like a phone, though.
