Black Friday price of $219.99 for this printer is live now! Original cost $349.99.

Disclaimer: During pre-covid days, this used to sell around $170 on BF so not the best deal but still a good one in recent times.

For those people who say they bought it at a better price somewhere else, can you post the link?

Quote from MagentaSpaniel2011 :
I just picked this up from my local Best Buy and set it up with LAN.

In response to the issues mentioned with Chrombooks, it took about 1 minute to do it: I assigned a static IP on my router. I then went to my Chromebook and added the printer by adding in the IP (Settings > Advanced > Printing > Add Printer; type in the name of your choice and the IP). That was it. Then I went to the Remote UI (just type the IP on a browser) and looked over the settings, added some contacts, made sure AirPrint was on, etc. In contrast, I had a ton of issues with an inkjet HP previously, and it kept losing connection.

I know the price may not be stellar, but given the pandemic supply issues and the fact that I am likely to be home schooling 3 kids again soon, this was an easy decision.
Any idea if the printer shows up automatically in printers page on chromebook? When logged in with my son's school a/c, the advanced settings page is disabled. I can login with my own gmail a/c and do whatever but those settings don't carry over to my son's school login on the same chromebook.

I have an older model MF8XXX model, and hate it. After a year there is a line on the roller, and scanning and storing on a network drive didn't work well. Also sometimes the printer does not come out of power saving mode, so I would manually need to press a button on the printer. Those are the bad things that steers me away from the printer, but it's tough to find an all in one for this price.

I need to send and recieve fax, not sure what the "send" feature is they refer to or how to send fax via internet. Seems like a hassle

Fax via internet has been around for a long time.. Very easy but they often charge.

I have MFC and it has phone jacks for faxing..

I might get this one since I have been wanting a new one..

I use that for work, is there anything free that can be used for home? Don't want to send private docs for everyone at work to see.

I too am wondering about aftermarket toner.

Also can anyone speak to the difference in print quality to Brother? I have my eye on the $400 Brother 3770 because the guy ay Staples recommended it based on my requirements are:
Color laser with scanner
Entry level price point
Reasonably price toner (which i expect will mean it needs to accept generic cartridges unless there is some kind of laser version of an Eco Tank). TIA

I always find that funny.. I trust no one that makes $10 a hour as an expert on any topic..

Apparently some printer drivers use a little bit of color toner even when printing in black and white so that your color toner needs to be replaced even if you rarely print in color.

Anyone know if the Canon laser printers do this?

Minus the added scanning capability, how does this compare in print quality to the HP M255DW? (https://www.officedepot.com/a/pro...-Wireless/) Thanks!

I wish this method had worked for me. I wonder if different Chromebooks have different drivers or abilities to recognize printers because I was not able to use this method on any of my kids' Chromebooks.

Based on all the earlier comments in this thread, I am contemplating the MF644CDW. In addition to the duplex scanning, one of the go/no-go criteria for me is the printer's ability to do "Cloud Scan" - i.e., without needing a local computer, the scanned documents should be uploaded into OneDrive, GoogleDrive, DropBox kind of services. It is not clear from the specifications if this is possible with MF644. Any current users can help confirming this capability? Thanks in advance!!!

Check Offerup for these. Lot's of companies went bankrupt. Lots of people side hustling these for less than 100 bucks. You can some nice cooperate grade laser printers for cheap.
