The Canon website lists the dimensions of the printer as (W x D x H) Standard (Desktop): 16.9" x 16.5" x 16.5". The website also lists "installation space" of (W x D x H) Standard (Desktop): 20.9" x 39.9" x 27.1".

So how much ACTUAL room on a surface is needed to use this printer? I have a printer cart that might fit the dimensions of the printer but definitely NOT the "installation space" listed. Any feedback on how/where others are putting their printers?

The installation space likely takes into account things like pulling out the paper tray and opening the scanner. Laser printers also have cooling fans that need space to breathe. It would likely fit on your cart just fine.

OTA updates are why I just bought this to replace my HP and will never buy from HP again. HP added a "security feature" that region locked the the ink cartridges.
As long as this printer works the way I want it will be blocked from the internet and OTA updates.

MF743cdw also on sale at bestbuy for $329.99 . Looking for advice on which one to get taking into account toner cost. We print about 100-150 pages a month. No need for duplex scanning.

How are you printing to it with the Chromebooks? I currently have a Dell laser which is not supported by ChromeOS so we've been using cloud print, but that is going away 12/31. I've been looking for another laser since the kids print a lot for school, but haven't come up with one that seems to be supported by ChromeOS. I don't see this one listed in ChromeOS either, so I'm hesitant to buy if I'm going to have the same issue I have now and have the kids unable to (easily) print after 12/31.

Bought this during 2019 Black Friday deal.. very reliable and have been very pleased with it. Only draw back is, there is no duplex (2-sided) scanning

I'm on the fence about this one. Very close to pulling the trigger but the one feature I really want is duplex scanning.

I bought this two years ago at Best Buy for the same price. Has been rock solid since then, except for the occasional once every couple months when it seems to go offline for no reason, and doesn't come back until you restart it.

I've encountered that with my old Canon MX922. What I've done to get it printing is run the printer troubleshooter. Prints for a while and then goes offline, then run the troubleshooter again. Seems to be dropping IP or something.

Those are inkjets. And more importantly, those are Epson. I'll never touch another Epson inkjet again. It's been years, so maybe they've improved things, but they were always restrictive on replacement ink so you had to use theirs. Also always had clogged heads. Got burned enough times I've stuck with Canon and Brother.
