How are you printing to it with the Chromebooks? I currently have a Dell laser which is not supported by ChromeOS so we've been using cloud print, but that is going away 12/31. I've been looking for another laser since the kids print a lot for school, but haven't come up with one that seems to be supported by ChromeOS. I don't see this one listed in ChromeOS either, so I'm hesitant to buy if I'm going to have the same issue I have now and have the kids unable to (easily) print after 12/31.
i have this setup for cloudprint but pretty sure it works without using that. I can't check today but I remember using new chromebook on the network and think i remember it showing up as a printer in chrome os.
Cloudprint was a handy way for me to print from the road back to home.
I think google is adding much more to chromeOS and basic linux style drivers or even more for this printer i'd bet it it already has the linux driver avail from Sept this year.
printing is essential for chromeos in so many schools. Im not worried. it is very helpful to be able to print in color for my students without the pain if inkjet clogs. I have not printed tons with it but never an issue with scanning to my laptop over network or to usb key, printing copy, printing from my phone using the app. Biggest fear for me were toner cost but ill try the generic
Seems like it: $46 for all colors, solid reviews... OfficeWorld Compatible Toner Cartridge Replacement for Canon 054 054H, Work with Color imageCLASS LBP622Cdw MF644Cdw MF642Cdw LBP620 MF640C Printer, 4 Pack (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B082D...UTF8&psc=1
I have this printer... Every aftermarket toner I've tried never lasts. It's a leakfest....I would never buy this again.
This printer is a disaster..I have the version that includes a fax. The fax dials when it wants.. The sheet feeder is a paper eater. And it can't print an envelope to save it's life.
Aftermarket toners are leaky and a mess when they finally fail.
This is getting office spaced soon. Decent price but I'll never buy another canon product again.
I live on aftermarket toner and got burnt when i got one for this.
Thankfully the listing is no longer on Amazon because that product was bad.

I just picked this up from my local Best Buy and set it up with LAN.
In response to the issues mentioned with Chrombooks, it took about 1 minute to do it: I assigned a static IP on my router. I then went to my Chromebook and added the printer by adding in the IP (Settings > Advanced > Printing > Add Printer; type in the name of your choice and the IP). That was it. Then I went to the Remote UI (just type the IP on a browser) and looked over the settings, added some contacts, made sure AirPrint was on, etc. In contrast, I had a ton of issues with an inkjet HP previously, and it kept losing connection.
I know the price may not be stellar, but given the pandemic supply issues and the fact that I am likely to be home schooling 3 kids again soon, this was an easy decision.

Have you had luck with specific aftermarket toners? The Toner Kingdom version, currently first choice on amazon is $45 and has good reviews.

People should ask themselves just how badly they need a color printer. There have been excellent deals recently on this forum for Brother models (without color) for under $100. Very inexpensive toner (which lasts forever) and rock-solid reliability from Brother made it a no-brainer for me. I consider it one the best investments I've made for my home computing. For photos, both the office or drug store have high-end equipment and are only a few blocks away.
I couldn't justify buying a color printer until I was working full time from home, and my kids were schooling from home full time. Not having a color printer has hindered some of my work and their school work.
Toners are the biggest issue with laser printers. My Dell died by starting to say toner empty, regardless of full or empty. I looked at HP and Lexmart, and they are a huge pain in OEM, like having to transfer a "chip" from a real toner cartridge. I need to look at this one, since based on comments, other than leaky (need to find ones with large review counts vs shilled / paid comments), it seems okay. I loved my dell, but before it died, they also added a firmware block on OEM. You could get around it is settings but it took a very fast memorized key sequence to turn it off. This seems to be okay, based on Amazon reviews and availability. Now to pull the trigger or wait for a cheaper price that may never come.
I've got a slightly different Canon printer and had horrible luck with generics from Amazon. We tried two different brands and were about to buy a different printer. Based on a Reddit suggestion I tried LDProducts, primarily because of their money back warranty. It now works like new. I will only buy LD toner from now on. I know this probably sounds like a shill post, but I'm just that happy with LD.

See my other reply, but I suggest you try LD Products before giving up on aftermarket toner. It's the only one that worked for my Canon 726CDW.
