The main thing that drove me away from that one is the price of toner replacements. The 644 is between the two printers, has the duplex scanning, and color toner replacement for all 4 is ~$50
Hmmmm........didn't look at toner. Maybe I should have.
Have you had luck with specific aftermarket toners? The Toner Kingdom version, currently first choice on amazon is $45 and has good reviews.
I'm using that exact same toner right now in mine. I installed it in September 2020. I print on it almost daily, and it has been working great for two months now.
Just checked the toner life menu, says it has 80% toner life left. Probably ran about 300 pages of color copies through it in the last two months.
I recommend the Toner Kingdom version, and it has a $10 off coupon right now.
Pulled the trigger. free shipping only, and I hate a sensitive thing like this shipped, since FedEx drop kicks stuff, and UPS smashes boxes. I go to checkout and after saying none with 100 miles, they tell me one 7 miles away, woohoo! Thanks OP. repped.
The amount of times people say something like this with no reference to exactly what deal they got...and then if you get them to follow up, you find out they got a deal on an inferior model and it wasn't nearly the deal they claimed it to be.
I just picked this up from my local Best Buy and set it up with LAN.
In response to the issues mentioned with Chrombooks, it took about 1 minute to do it: I assigned a static IP on my router. I then went to my Chromebook and added the printer by adding in the IP (Settings > Advanced > Printing > Add Printer; type in the name of your choice and the IP). That was it. Then I went to the Remote UI (just type the IP on a browser) and looked over the settings, added some contacts, made sure AirPrint was on, etc. In contrast, I had a ton of issues with an inkjet HP previously, and it kept losing connection.
I know the price may not be stellar, but given the pandemic supply issues and the fact that I am likely to be home schooling 3 kids again soon, this was an easy decision.
Thanks! This is exactly what I needed to know. The IP method does not work with my Dell laser so I was unsure if this one would work since it doesn't appear in the list of supported printers. I ordered the last one in my store for pickup tomorrow.
what does the pandemic have to do with printer prices?
The supply chain has been interrupted when they closed the factories down in Asia. Plus there is a big demand for printers for all the people that started working from home and school from home. Same thing for home exercise equipment.
Got refurnished one earlier this year.
I have to set it to use static IP, or it will go into sleep and wakeup with different IP.
Other than that, it's perfect.

That is a problem with most printers, like my dell and brother printers do it also. Always used static IP to avoid the issue.
Wow this is amazing. I was regretting my purchase after seeing how each color toner costs $60! And I would need 4 of them. But then I saw this post and couldn't believe how all 4 are less than $60. How is that possible? Thanks!

I've had good luck with these aftermarket toners, very close to the quality of the original equipment Canon toner cartridges:
