Amazon same price: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-...B07SXMZLPK

I'll wait for the 5600x if I am in market - single core performance sure beat the 3700x while the overall passmark is comparable. The 5600x is only $20 more. But I expect the 3700x will go down to 250-260 area by new year's time.

Care to explain any further?
It's 3700x vs 5600x, similar price and similar performance. No reason to consider the 5800x if you are not budgeting that price range.

Pretty sure it's been this price or a few bucks more for about a year now. I've been monitoring the 3700x vs 3800x vs 3900x. Agree with others that I'd wait until this drops further or just buy current gen.

No definitely not. In fact even the 6 core 5600X beats 3700X So I would say 5600X is a better buy at $300 unless 3700X comes down to $250 which it will. It used to go for $264 with 3 pen drive on walmart couple of months ago.
Remember that however cannot hold anymore. 5600x stock is poor and 3700x is not going to 260-. So my options are either this or 3800 s whatevr is the best deal

3800xt at @300 vs 3700x @280 with stock cooler. Is 3800xt worth it consideting only 3-5% improvement?
Yes, it is. $20 for a factory 200mhz over clock is worth it.

My 3700x is difficult to cool, even with a beefy scythe mugen. Does "refined" 7nm chips also do temperature spikes? It's weird because it stays very cool during hours of 100% use in video transcoding but jumps 10-20 degrees for a few seconds for the most mundane tasks like opening Firefox or word.

No, the 2700X went down to $150 LAST Black Friday. I bought one. They are almost extinct from stores now. The 3700X is only over priced because supply of the new CPUs is still quite bad. The 3700X WILL go down to $150 to $$175 as soon stock levels go up.

$150 would be extreme. At $200, people will buy up 3700x like crazy. $200-$220 is the right price. In reality, its only ~15% slower than a 5600x.

Yes I was referring to the 2700x. I apologized.

By the way, the Ryzen 5 5600x runs about the same price as the Ryzen 7 3600x. Maybe buy the 5600x over the 3700x?
