For me Roku will always be superior for one reason: Private Listening mode. To be able to use my airpods and switch from phone to tv is a convenience I'm willing to pay extra for, not sure why other platforms haven't implemented this feature yet.

Aren't these tcl android ones the models with the chinese backdoor problem ?
Or have they resolved it yet with a patch?
I was reading these have the issue, but not the tcl roku models....
Yes the andriod ones where tested and they had found there's a back door . They said the tcl with roku does not appear to have same issue

Hmm...I want a relatively big TV for my room. What's the chances of getting one under 100$ that's similar to this in size black friday?

Also, is it possible to use a dongle to enable bluetooth, so I can use bluetooth headphones on TVs like this? I know some are capable, but not all.

You do know is $169 right? What do you expect? 🤦
True. I'd say it's good for the price and the picture quality is actually pretty good for the price range too. I'm not sure if theres a better TV that's at a comparable price. Maybe samsung?

Dude, i've had a roku tv for the past year and never knew about this. I just tested it out and this is awesome! my little ones have a habit of blaring their tablets right beside me and i can never hear the tv, so this will absolutely come in handy..thank you!

What a disservice to that PS5
Haha. I'm trying to get by a little cheap rather than pay a lot from a premium tv. I might dave for a better tv next year.

I just got a samsung ur55 28" 4k monitor that I may end up using for now or for a while.

FWIW, I find the Chromecast with Google TV experience (plugged into this Android TV) much smoother than the native Android TV experience built into this model, most notably when streaming HDHomerun TV streams via Kodi. Can't beat this price/value though!

about 6 million pixels... the best buy TV is 1080p. This one's 4K.

Oooh back door. The same article also said that TCL was wrong to have fixed some sets without making a superbowl event out of it. Such "silent patching" was deemed bad because TCL did not ask for an authorization to fix the back door. How strange a grievance.

I mean, really, after the "whistleblowers" specifically told TCL that this was an urgent problem, is TCL supposed to think that some princess somewhere would actually refuse to authorize the patch?? Lol, oh well, guess you can't please every hobbyist turned whistleblower, I mean, activist/"journalist".

I've been using this as both a monitor and tv for three weeks now. It's great for the price. Didn't have enough money for a real 4k monitor for work so this tv works just fine. It can do 4:4:4 but my RX480 doesn't seem to be able to go past 8 bpc so it looks terrible. I'm running YCbCR 4:2:2 instead and it looks great for my purposes (teaching online and web browsing). Text is sharp and plenty of screen space. I have it set on movie mode instead of PC because I don't like my screen that bright for my eyes. It does struggle with motion and ghosting when scrolling too fast but nothing that I can't overlook for the price.
No, you want 444 60hz 8bit.

If you use 4:2:2, @ 10bit, that's pointless because desktop applications are rendered at 8 bit and you're losing pixel precision for nothing.

You also need to test if this tv's chipset/software even supports 10bit input, if it's discarding instead of dithering, then the 10bit only makes it worse with 0 benefit. in my experience most android sets refuse 10bit input from pc.
