TP-Link Archer A7 AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Wifi 5 Router (Official Recertified) 29.99

I was about to purchase this new for 59.99 on Amazon until I did a comprehensive price search and found this on eBay for 29.99 with free shipping via TP-Link's Official eBay site/account. It is a company refurbished item but half off the price of a new one, the pot odds are correct to call on this refurbished version. 6-day sale according to the listing.

B&H Photo is also selling this refurbished for 29.99 + 6 dollars and change for shipping (free ship with 49.00 or more purchase).

Great price on a decent, serviceable router. Easy to turn this one into an access point with stock firmware. Actively being supported, so less chance of security issues. Wifi range isn't great, but not terrible either. As a primary router, the bottleneck might end up being processing power if used with a lot of devices.

A DD-WRT build is also available:

I have had this router for a couple of years. To get the best coverage I relocated it to near the center of my house and pointed the 3 antennas it has in different directions. I am also using a hard wired $20 Tp-link range extender (RE200) as an access point in my home office which is on one end of the house. For a 2500 sq-ft 2 story house I have no dead spots anywhere including 4 wifi security cams mounted outside my house. I get 100 Mbps from my ISP and on 5Ghz Wifi I pull down close to this max speed on speed tests all through out the house. I have 14 devices connecting to the router or access point at the same time.

After a lot of tweaking I get best results running 2.4Ghz Wifi on 802.11n only and 5Ghz on 802.11n/ac mixed. Also disable NAT boost and use Qos instead. For the $60 I paid for this router and range extender a couple of years ago both refurbished I couldn't be happier and doubt a more expensive mesh solution will give me any noticeable better experience. If I upgraded my ISP speeds maybe my setup won't perform as well but even then I would put the Archer A7 to use as an access point while upgrading my core router so you can't go wrong with this at this price.

I'm not too familiar with router firmware. Does anyone know if this can be set up for use as part of a mesh network, like with the Aimesh option I've heard about with other routers?

Thanks in advance.

My TP-Link A7 AC1750 refurbished purchase history:
June 2020: B&H Photo Video $27.99 + free ship: looked brand new with plastic film still on top. Version 5.0
Sep 2020: eBay TP-Link $39.99 + free ship: obviously used with scratches on top. A newer version 5.x (can't remember last number)

Both looked to come in the same "official" refurbished box. Definitely hit and miss whether you get a like-new one or a beat up one.

Unlike with AiMesh, you can't use two of these routers to create a mesh. You have to use certain range extenders/access points instead.

Is this better than the Asus RTAC1200GE that was recently on sale?

Looks like it's already back to $49.99. So much for a 24 hour sale. Did snag one from B&H for $38 shipped. Thx for the heads up OP.

i have this router in my Ebay watchlist for weeks. The Ebay seller (TP-Link?) is playing this cat and mouse game many times. They lower the price to attract buyers and then jack the price up to the highest.
Just add it to your Ebay watchlist and wait until it's on sale again. Don't fall for their dirty trick
