Using your phone for a security key is a false attempt at security for any apps that are ON the phone. You've defeated the 2 factor theory. Assuming you have LastPass/Keeper/etc also on your phone. Or use OTP apps like Authy on the same phone.

If you are serious about this, disable SMS and OTP for any system that's supports it. Use backup printed (literally) keys that you store in a fireproof safe at home, if needed.

Google's Advanced Protection Program is great too.

I have two YubiKeys for work accounts and a separate Titan key with one of the YubiKeys for personal, as not all sites support Titan keys, like LastPass.

I've had success with both keys on android, iOS, Mac, and Linux/Windows PC's. There are still restrictions to some combinations and versions of OS' so you need to be careful to investigate your anticipated usage scenarios.

Edit: USB-A to USB-C adaptors are included with Titan non bluetooth keys, and nfc works fine on anything I've tried that supports it. The Titan BT key isn't 100% compatible though.

You shouldn't need four unless you're super-paranoid. Keep one in a safe deposit box, and when you lose one or it fails, buy another one right away.
I believe they meant should a couple have 4 between the 2 of them.

Do any banks support Yubikey? Brokerage houses? I'd like to protect my finances with a hardware based authenticator, but it seems there's no support out there.
I'm not sure about banks, but I can confirm Vanguard supports the 5 series keys. It's a bit buried, but it has worked well for me.

So... a couple needs 4 keys, potentially? For backup?
Ideally yes, it is best for each of you to have 2. That is unless you are sharing all your accounts. 1 for you and 1 as a backup and 1 for your S/O and a backup for them.

They are expensive but at the end of the day, they are well worth it with piece of mind, security and then ease of use.
i got 2 pair for 24.5 not looking for any discount as I know their site will be overwhelmed and sure it was not accessible now.
