If you are getting started and want to spend very little money, this might be a good choice. It is a decent unit...but you need to be aware of a few things. The coil size is small. That means you cover less ground per sweep. And this is going to be worthless at the beach. Between the black sand, which is due to iron......and the salt in the sand and water, this is going to go haywire. But if want to try out a park or other, similar area, you will find things. Most of those things might be trash.....but you might find a couple of rings or coins too.

Agree with lottathought. The reviews are hard to argue with and a lot of people seem to be happy with it. This isn't a device for a hobbyist though. If you are seriously considering metal detecting as a hobby you should start off from something a bit more likely to keep you engaged. There are many many more crushed Coke and beer cans buried out there than there are gold rings.
