Excellent deal on an excellent drive!
I bought the 512GB 950 Pro years ago for a little under $300 Smilie

The bigger poopy part of it is that these "super fast" devices aren't really very impressive in real world activities. You're shaving seconds off of computing time daily with them.

If I'm people, I would wait for WD black to drop again. It can easily be had at $110-120 1tb. Alot better ssd than this 970. If it was 970 plus, then I say buy it.

Adorama has the WD Black 500gb gaming for $63.

That is 2.5" drive not NVMe.
Nah, look closer. There's other links in that post. $114 and change for SK hynix 1TB NVMe.

Real world test doesnt show that.
Any NVMe would be hard to judge in real world tests, agree there. However, the SK Hynix also has 25% more TBW (endurance).

I'm not a tech guy, is it easy to transfer OS from ssd to this? Just simply copy and paste all the file? I have window 10 OS running on Evo 860..
If you have a EVO 860 that means your computers interface is SATA 3 so this wouldn't be of any use to you as it will run at the same speed. Now if your computer accepts NVME then it's simple. If it's a desktop or laptop that has a extra slot for it just put it in and clone it. SSDs come with free software to do that. Only take a few minutes. If no extra slot then you need a special cable that plugs into the usb slot that cost around $10.

You can replace your Macbook Air SSD if it's 2013-2017. Anything 2018 or later, you won't be able to since the SSD is soldered I believe. I recently replaced my 2015 Macbook Air with a WD Blue NVMe SSD and it's working great.

Here's the guide I used:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWZcgFncG6g

Thank you. Mine is an early 2015 MacBook Air. I do not have enough space for the latest upgrade. I see this SSD, Western Digital Black SSD and a brand I never heard of. Is there a recommendation for the MacBook Air? They are all near the same price and I do not know about the other brand promoted on Slickdeals, but I have heard of this and Western Digital. Recommendation?

The Samsung drives come with software to transfer the data from your old drive to this drive.

I owned WD black and 970 evo plus.. WD black outperforms samsung one. And thats the Plus. So it would outperform this one as well.

Thanks njramsfan !

Link?

Amazon has the SK Hynix P31 at $135 and a clickable coupon I believe. The drive itself is better because this isn't the Evo Plus, just the evo. The evo plus might still be worse than the P31 but it's about the same, unless you look at power efficiency. I believe the way the NAND is stacked (more layers on the SK Hynix) allows the SK Hynix to need less cooling and be more efficient. That's why not just because of price but efficiency I went with the SK Hynix drive for my laptop. If you're using it for a desktop, either would be quite the daily drive. Hope that helps a little

Bought the 500GB at launch for $200.... ugh! Has been a great drive, but I honestly would recommend getting the 970 EVO PLUS over this one. It's a little more, but has a much better read/write and IOPS performance. Also on an all-time low on Amazon ($150 for 1TB) per CCC, minus one day where it was a few bucks cheaper.

Can I use this with an external for a secondary hard drive on my Surface Pro 6? What would be a good enclosure and how would throughput be?

Is this worth buying to upgrade a 1TB internal 2.5 sata 3 ssd? I currently just have my OS and games on that and have a separate HDD for regular files. Wondering if it's worth the hassle of reinstalling windows and whatnot

I also did not have enough space for the upgrade (I had 128gb before upgrading to 500gb), so I just backed up everything to an external HDD using Time Machine, then started deleting stuff until I cleared up enough space for the macOS (which you need to subsequently move onto a flash drive, as shown in the video).

The guy in the video mentions that he used a Samsung 960 EVO and noticed great performance but a 10-15% battery life decrease. I guess it would depend on whether you care more about performance or battery life, as the Samsung 970 EVO and WD Black may offer better performance than cheaper SSDs like the WD Blue or Crucial P1 (which are selling in the low $50s right now for 500gb at Best Buy), but it may drain the battery a little more.
