One of a number of YouTube videos on refilling your tanks yourself using dry ice from your local grocery store (YMMV).

Bought a similar deal from Target a couple weeks ago. I love this thing. A couple tips: DO NOT use anything other than PURE WATER to carbonate. Carbonating anything other than straight, unflavored water (even fruit infused water) will result in a super fizzy mess and a nozzle that will harbor bacteria. There is no advantage to flavoring before carbonation. Also, for fizzier drinks, use very, very cold water. Additional flavoring syrups from other brands like Mio or other water additives work great too, just don't use anything powdered unless you dissolve it in water first.
It's very easy to refill canisters yourself with dry ice and save a LOT of money.
Dry ice sells for $2-3 a pound at grocery store. You need about 1.5lbs to fully fill the canister.
Wear gloves!
Make sure canister is empty by pressing release valve on top of the bottle with your finger. Take a wrench and unscrew the brass valve from canister, take note not to lose the black rubber washer. Throw 1.5lbs of dry ice into a blender to turn it into powder. Attached a funnel to canister with masking tape. Pour dry ice into canister, leave couple inches from top for valve. Screw in valve and tighten with wrench, don't over tighten it won't unscrew under pressure. Let the canister sit for 2-3 hours in warm temperature for ice to turn to co2. Enjoy your fizzy pop!
Alternatively, for $1 more you can get the Fizzi Starter Kit with a bottle brush + extra bottle caps at SodaStream.com

Bought a c02 hose adapter on ebay and 20lb c02 tank from local brewery supply back in August for this. Drink at least 2 liters per day and 20lb tank will probably need to be refilled next week for about $23 to last another 3 months.

Sodastream c02 bottles hold about 1lb for $15 x 20lb = $300

My upfront cost was $150 for a full 20lb tank, but might be cheaper where you live. Something to consider if you drink a lot of carbonated water like we do.

I get apple juice or pom juice and do 50-50 water to juice ratio for sparkled drinks. You can adjust your amount accordingly.

Lately I started adding tapioca peals (bubble tea) with fresh cut (finely chopped apple, mint leaves, lemon juice, pom juice etc combination of your linkings) all to this sparkling water. Man, my summer drink was awesome.

The cheapest canister replacement is from bed bath and beyond. They have extra 20% off on these refills as well. $15 - 20% + taxes.

Tank exchange cost kills any savings... either buy large co2 tank and refill yourself, hook straight to large co2 tank or do it as a novelty... dry ice is not convenient to say the least espically if you drink bubbly water often.

Are any stores even letting you exchange tanks anymore? I used to do it at Best Buy, but they took it off their website.

5lb co2 Tank- New Aluminum Cylinder with CGA320 Valve https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00HQ...UTF8&psc=1 [amazon.com]

The tank ships empty
Thanks. I've been tempted to try this, however at a little over $100 upfront and $15 to refill the 5 lb tank, it's a tough call. The 20 lb tank make more sense, but the physical external tank size is a major issue. Do not have the math in front of me, but it takes about a year or so of refills to break even and after that you are golden at that point.

Also, just so others know, you can exchange the regular size tank at Bed Bath and Beyond with 20% coupon for about $13 a pop.

Our family of 6 drinks 2 liter bottles a day and buy them for $1 each. I wait for sale on 2 liters and stock up when its on sale. I do recycle the bottles but would like to stop this all together by purchasing this.

I also think we drink to much soda and if this better than drinking store bought drinks like cola or pepsi products. I know the syrups have sugar but does sodastream syrup has less sweatners?

Will this atleast make $1 per 2 liter with adding syrup such as cola? Where is best place to purchase syrup?

Anyone know how I can feed it gas from a 20LB tank? I know you can connect it directly, but I need it to share a line with other stuff. I can add a manifold to my regulator for 1/4 in line, but who knows what thread or adapter I could use to connect to the soda stream.

Between the 6 of you, at least one will find the SodaStream to be fun. I know I do.

I didn't like the SS syrups that much, closer to Faygo/"Big K Cola" than Coca-Cola. I just put in a little fruit juice or liquid artificial flavor+liquid artificial sugar.

Everyone: I use this with my SS: LorAnn Super Strength Flavor Oils.

One of the listings on Amazon lets you pick 12 flavors for $21. I did this, and picked a bunch. While the look tiny, 4 drops is enough to give a nice strong flavor to one liter. My favorites are pina colada, peach, butter rum, and the various citrus flavors.

They come in nice little glass bottles and just seem to be high quality all around, with a natural high quality flavor like jelly belly beans.

I also mix in 5% grapefruit juice with any of the fruit flavors, gives it an extra natural sweet and tart flavor with minimal sugar.

is this the proper way? I saw someone mentioning they were going to make fresh juice and stuff so I guess they'll just make fresh juice and then pour some into the carbonated water after?
