Thanks in advance... OP says it all... Im not a computer tech guy... If i get a couple options, i will then just pick one and buy it... I dont plan on diving deep into the specs... I trust SD users to just guide me in the right direction... Oh... my dad might play some games on it, but not any crazy games that requires a super computer.

I got this for my parents for $300 plus tax

They are illiterates when it comes to computers so the laptop is just for doing basic stuff for them.
If you can spend a little more there's couple options

This is little expensive compared to others in the same spec range because it has touch screen

This is also a good option I think
Came across these two but negative is the 720p screen on the hp one, and the other one might not be appealing because it's gateway. I have no idea how good gateway computers are

Edit - just noticed the <$400 requirement. That narrows it down to only one in this list sadly

Might be the best deal around $400 , And for a few more bucks around $450 you can customise it to 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD

With the 1080P screen upgrade for $40, and the free upgrade to backlit keyboard.
That 4700 is a great ryzen processor and the features on this are all great. Good laptop, and especially good for the money.

A friend told me the ASUS is less at Office Depot but we don't have them here anymore and I prefer to deal with Micro Center with my computer purchases if I can. Micro Center has it for $249.99. They don't have an official price match policy but I found the monitor I bought for my son there for $80 less at Best Buy and my salesperson is working on getting me the difference refunded -- the salespeople there give you contact information and I find them to be very helpful in general.n The ASUS is 14 inches.

Search for Acer Aspire 3 A315-56-594W 15.6" Laptop Computer - Gray for the other one. For some reason when I tried to link this one to send my sister it was not coming up. This one is $499.99.

There is an i5 version for $429, also currently out of stock.

Chose the 17inch as they do not travel much with the laptops, and use it mainly for watching videos & web browsing.
