Remember Gateway in the 90s, don't know they still there :-)

got it today. love everything about this laptop, except sound is tinny (especially given the "Tuned by THX") inscription on the front, fan is a bit noisier than I would have liked and keyboard has no backlight, although keys are super big. Everything else seems great: screen is awesome, fingerprint reader location is convenient and it's fast and accurate so far. Metal finish of the lid makes it look expensive... I am almost impressed, which is rare

IF.... you never had a Gateway laptop.... you never will.
Gateway stopped manufacturing laptops in 2007.
This are just rebranded Acers.
It's worse than that. They're rebranded EVOO. Stay away. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...-bad-news/

Just type Gateway laptop in YouTube search and see the suggestions. Then decide.
These are made by EVOO. They have a pretty bad rep.

I will always have a soft spot for Gateway after the laptop deal at Best Buy in 2010. $500 was listed price not a sale or clearance. Actually had i5 when product details showed i3 which at the time was a big deal. I think this was the Slickdeals post but I thought the discussion had like 3k comments. I still have this laptop and fire it up every once in a while over 10 years later. Slickdeals classic memories....

I picked this up from 60 miles away. Used for a few years and then sold it on Craigslist for about 150 or so. Got a lot out of it. Can't believe it was 10 years back

I purchased this and just received it today. It took 9 days from ordering to receive it. This is a first impression comment after spending a couple of hours using it. Although laptops with better specs seem to exist around the same price range, I wanted a smaller or 14" form factor due to travel (not much now, but hopefully more when Covid is over). I am not a power user and primarily us a computer to browse, use Word/Excel, burn Blu-Rays/DVDs/CDs with an external burner. The fingerprint sensor is built into the trackpad (it is a little square on the upper left side). So far, I have to finger the sensor twice every login instead of once. A little annoying. The case has a great deal of flex. So much so that I am concerned about using one hand carrying the laptop around. I selected the green colored case and it is nice, but the green is a little dark. The plastic used for the case also feels soft, so it probably will scratch easily. The display looks good to me at 75% brightness (indoors)--way better than my Lenovo IdeaPad S340 (TN?) from last year's front page. I am not sure if other people received a different laptop, since some posters mentioned this laptop had a backlit keyboard but mine does not (unless my unit is defective). Windows and drivers updates were fast via WiFi. Based on items listed under Programs and Features, the only "junk" programs seem to be Norton Security Ultra and Mozilla Firefox. The start menu contains a lot of junk shortcuts though. Easily removed. I cannot comment on the audio, since I my hearing is bad. I used deadpixeltest.com to check the display for dead pixels and did not see any. As others have commented, an access panel exists on the underside of the laptop, but I did not open it and do not intend to install another storage device. The chassis crews are Phillip head, so opening the chassis should be easy. Note: If you open the chassis, use the minimal amount of Loctite as possible when re-screwing the screws. I learned this the hard way, since I destroyed my Acer Swift 3 from two years ago by using too much and ended up cracking every plastic screw holder when I tried to do additional upgrading, so the bottom would not longer stay on. Given the amount of chassis flex, I will probably return the laptop. Too bad the Asus Zenbook maxes out at 8GB RAM or I would have purchased it instead!
