Paperwhite looks far better with little or no device lighting, and is readable much like a book. It keeps state in an interesting way - when you suspend it, the ads look like a newspaper or magazine and seem to use no battery power - mine will sit for weeks with no notable battery loss until I power it on. By this token, it is also likely to last on a battery longer. It is a fairly unique feature for a handful of e-readers and doesn't lead to eyestrain. Closest thing to a book I have used.
Pardon the question, shopping for my 12 y/o dd...i hear the voyage in 2014 is better than paper white but is this a decent paper white version? Can't find a new voyage anywhere...There is also a kindle for $59.... how is that? So many versions I can't keep up? Then there is a kid version.. ?? Tia for any advice
Get the waterproof paperwhite (the screen is similar to the 6-year-old discontinued Voyage).
Paperwhite is nicer than the plain (triple the pixels) and waterproof.
How bad are the ads? Is it a banner ad while you are reading? Is it an ad that appears when you flip a page like when you read a magazine or newspaper?
I have had a Kindle touch for at least 5 years so forgive this stupid question. I'd this one good for outside reading AND backlit for reading in bed at night with no lights on?
