Paperwhite looks far better with little or no device lighting, and is readable much like a book. It keeps state in an interesting way - when you suspend it, the ads look like a newspaper or magazine and seem to use no battery power - mine will sit for weeks with no notable battery loss until I power it on. By this token, it is also likely to last on a battery longer. It is a fairly unique feature for a handful of e-readers and doesn't lead to eyestrain. Closest thing to a book I have used.
How bad are the ads? Is it a banner ad while you are reading? Is it an ad that appears when you flip a page like when you read a magazine or newspaper?
You only see them during the Lock Screen when the Kindle is asleep, and I think maybe a banner while navigating your library - never while reading.
Like others have said, getting rid of them is fairly easy.
Why are people bothering trying to remove ads. You barely notice them. I'd literally not pay $1 to remove them
When you remove the ads you no longer have to swipe to read. I use a magnetic case so all i do is open my cover and i can start reading. I wouldn't care about the ads if they would go away automatically like the wallpaper

I have a original paperwhite with ads and use a magnetic case and don't have to swipe. I just open the case and it starts back up where i left off.
Get one with a built in hand strap!! It's amazing. The cover folds around and clicks in place via magnet. Then you have a nice pop out hand strap to hold on back of unit while reading in any position
PASS. Worst tablet ever. All they have is books LOL. No shows or movies and the games are like WORDS??? Wtf. What kind of idiot gets this tablet. I'll get a Samsung so I can watch friends.

Or the current "regular" Kindle for $59?

Or maybe at least remember the last page of more than one book?
