This saw has had some changes where some other features are missing besides the Led light. You have to open the saw and see if it is a type 1 to be exact match. Type 20 or 21 is newer model without the level stop paws and sliding top lever. My local Lowe's had the DWS780 and free stand yesterday and I bought it.

A table saw is MUCH more versatile than a miter saw. A table saw can do virtually everything that a miter saw can do, along with a whole lot more.
Unless you've got a big trim install project in you future, I'd definitely go with the table saw.
I paid $599 normal price. I figured if I would have waited for 779, I pay about $80 for kit, plus my time, in reality only saving $100. If I wouldn't have gotten the free stand with the 780, I would have gotten above deal instead.

My husband is a professional trim carpenter with 30 years of experience. He doesn't like the light on the 780.
Miter saw first. Depending on your project, You ALWAYS need to cut wood to length. You only occasionally need to rip lumber to narrower width, which is what a table saw excels at.

This deal looks fantastic. I had a stand so was not interested in a combo deal, but if I needed a new stand this would be tempting. Having said that, if I had a do-over, I'd go for the 780 and not worry about adding the light. The one thing that I would warn you about this saw. It is heavy. It weighs nearly 70 lbs. I've been humping it out to my backyard every day to build my shed, and you better have a strong back to move it around. The other thing is that it's big. If you're used to a small, non-sliding 10" saw, like I was, this thing is a beast. It takes up a lot of room. The good news is that you don't have to move it very much -- just to the stand and back in the garage at the end of the day.
I would disagree with those who say a table saw is just as useful as a mitre saw. Outside of a good circular saw, a mitre saw may be the most useful saw you can own -- at least in my experience. I'm not a pro but I've renovated several houses and done quite a bit of woodworking. I own a table saw and lots of other saws but the mitre saw is always my first choice for cutting boards to length. Try cutting a 30 degree angle on a 8' 2x4 on a table saw. It would be almost impossible on a table saw, but it's very easily done on a mitre saw and it's easily repeated as is cutting any length board to a precise size. Yes, you can do it with a circular saw, but when you're building trusses, you want them to meet together precisely with no gaps that might weaken the joint, and or, change the length of the your cord. While they'll certainly go together, you'll pay the price when you try to put your facia on and all the ends of your trusses are different lengths.
The 779 is a great saw. I really like it. The only noticeable difference between it and the 780 is the light. The light is fantastic. The shadow light adds a degree of precision that you just don't get with anything else. I drop the saw blade down before making the cut and it tells me exactly where my blade will land. You can easily adjust your board so that the cut falls inside or outside of your cut line. That makes a big difference as the blade itself is close to an 1/8 inch. To get tight joints the light is indispensable. Having had it now, I wouldn't live without it.
Have the 780 with the shadow/ light and it definitely helps me be more precise with my cuts. I can easily imagine your husband being a professional might not need it at all. For me a non-professional it is huge and I would not want to go back to a miter saw without it.
I use this saw and the Ridgid wheeled stand which is also on sale rn. Perfect combo imho.
