The 779 is the same saw for $200 less than the 780, plus you get the mobile stand. For $60-80 you can add the light (which most people don't even use) to make it the same exact saw. This is a good deal.

Here is a video on what it takes to add the led light. More irl experience imo. Also the comments show there is a few more differences besides the led light on the 779 vs 780
https://youtu.be/jZF-3-SzHes

Overall this is a very good deal if you need a stand and want to upgrade to led light later

Hi all! New homeowner and just getting started being "handy." I anticipate lots of future projects for the next several decades of my life. With that being said, this thing looks like an absolute beast and option-wise, I think it would cover all the bases for anything I would ever think of needing. So is this way overkill for a DIY'er? In other words, is the bulk and heaviness of the saw not really worth it for someone who is going to use it for random projects versus someone who does this for living day in and day out?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone!

If you have the room for this one get it. No question. Ideally just leave it on the stand in the garage somewhere. I'd also recommend looking at the deal for milwaukee's or another brand's multi-tool. Those are always handy in a home.

Can anyone say if this is a good blade? It looks like the price is a good deal?

I changed stores and the sale worked. Apparently not all stores are at that price? How weird.

i was in your shoes, ended up with a 10 inch single bevel non compound hitachi $100 and a 10 inch dewalt table saw $225 it covers 98% of what i needed to do. Build a good bench. The only time i have been scuppered to date is long 2x10 boards and try to cut a miter.

i have borrowed a dws780 from a friend awesome saw but heavy and the stand takes up a fair amount of space if you only use it a few times a year.

This deal fits the "buy once, cry once" philosophy. One of the best miter saws available.

Looks like Depot has matched the price of $399 for the same saw and stand. They are also including a blade, wrench, dust bag and material clamp... don't see a mention of the extra goodies at Lowes.

I would like to know the same.. worth going for this for $230 more compared to the ryobi 10" and ridgid stand from the deal last month

Those aren't extra goodies, they come standard in the box with the saw.

It's not just a light, it's an alignment tool for where the blade cuts. Not prone to moving like laser.
