Only Once? I thought I could use them directly on a gas stove to cook soup or stew beef.

Do you use this brand or the other brand? I was holding out for a high end brand but we have lodge cast iron pans and love them.
The brand I bought was Hercules (made by Mundial) and it's great, but I don't think it's available on Amazon anymore. Most of these have induction compatible bottoms too. Just read the reviews for cast aluminum ceramic coated dutch ovens. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=cast+a..._sb_noss_1

Walmart has a 6 qt oval one for $40 w/free shipping https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hercul...lerId=5651

This is a nice looking pot. I have a blue 7.25 qt Le Creuset that is beautiful but a beast to pick up. So much so I switched to ceramic coated cast aluminum Dutch Oven. All the great cooking qualities, but a fraction of the weight. Just a thought for those that find cast iron Dutch Ovens too unwieldy.
How does the cast aluminum dutch oven maintain the heat? I know cast iron keeps the heat for much longer

Walmart has been selling 5.5 qt one for $39.99 for quite a while, if this is too heavy for you

Both brands are good but I find the lodge to be built a little nicer. The lodge is also rated for higher temp (500° vs 450°) which I prefer since I pre-heat to 500° when making bread.
^^^^^ This!

I bought the Lodge on A-zon last month after reading many reviews (it was $69.90 at the time in the color that we liked). Not going to spring for a Le Creuset if I can have a quality product for 1/3 - 1/5 of the price. I've made some incredible no knead bread in the past couple of weeks in the thing. And we've used it for so many dishes lately (we've started only cooking at home during COVID...haven't ordered in in 8+ months), I can tell it's going to be "well loved" in a year or two. So far it's held up.

I believe this one can't as it's enameled on the inside.

I found the following one is even cheaper and lots of reviews. How does the lodge compared to the following one?

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Tramon...n/29114481 [walmart.com]
I would say to spend a little extra and get the lodge. I have a few lodge cast iron skillets and they never let me down. This lodge can be placed in an oven and handle up to 500 degrees. Whereas the Tramontina can only handle 400. Would also like to point out that the knob on the Tramontina may also need replacing.

Hmm is there much difference between lodge and tramontina ditch ovens? Picked up a 4qt7qt set from Costco and both brands are made in china anyways.
No, same difference. I own Tramontina and Lodge. Just got a 4qt Staub for $100 to see if I like the look and quality. But for anyone just getting interested in dutch oven cooking, those 2 Tramontinas will last you near forever if you treat them right.
I will say, for other comments, that the Tramontina has held up well even though I use it at 500F for baking breads. But I DID swap out the handle. Trust me...you don't want to see what happens to that handle when you go above 400F. A $2 knob at Lowes did the trick.

This or the Always Pan?
This. 1000x this. Always pan is a gimmicky ceramic coated pan with a steamer insert. Most would need more than a 10" sauté pan in their life
