Last time I went down the rabbit hole of researching which mainstream full synthetic was best for the price, I concluded with Pennzoil Platinum (not Ultra Platinum, because it's a very marginal improvement for a disproportionate higher cost).

Anyone savvy on oils have a different opinion? Anything change in 2020?
I just bought ultra platinum on Amazon for $20 through a deal, and regular platinum is at $22, so ultra ended up being cheaper. But ya, either is ok, and you need to buy just platinum if you want a dexos certification.

I stocked up on two 5-qt containers of Platinum for ~$14 each on the last Amazon sale. With a quality synthetic and a 10k mile extended performance oil filter, I change oil once a year, so I'm good for some time.

If you really care about your car and you want it to last as long as possible, you should change your oil at 7500 at the latest, and use a high quality oil like Mobil 1 or pennzoil

7500-8000 is the target, though I believe 10k isn't bad either. My 09 G37 still going strong.

Reason I believe that is because I bought a car in a 3rd world country and it looked like the (conventional) oil hadn't been changed for at least 10k miles, and even that didn't take a toll on the engine. the viscosity was gone. It really appears the industry tells us the oil is only good for a fraction of the actual lifespan. Similar to how expired ibuprofen still works, only that the manufacturer doesn't guarantee it anymore out of an abundance of caution.

In the past I was getting it changed at 5k miles - good for the repair shops business but not necessary.

I have a relatively low-mileage (~78k) 28 year old car that doesn't have any serious oil leaks, just the valve cover which I understand is pretty common. Would high mileage oil help, hurt or not make a difference? I've heard that putting it in a car without serious leaks could actually do it harm, especially seals and gaskets. Is this true and am I better off with regular synthetic oil?
High mileage has conditioner additives that help seals and gaskets swell up to prevent leaks. These can become brittle or change size from heat changes, age, etc. I'd probably go with high mileage oil in a 28 year old vehicle. Valvoline recommends high mileage oil at 75k miles.

All time low doesn't matter if there's no rebate. I'm used to getting my oil $10 per 5 quarts. Have 3 years worth of oil stored all purchased at about that price, comprised of Mobil 1, Rotella gas truck, and some Pennzoil. All full synthetic. $19 is way too expensive. If there was a $10 rebate to go with that, then it would be an excellent deal.

No rebate. I'd wait. Usually falls to $12-15 without rebate in late December-Early Feb

Not true. Do a used oil analysys and you'll see it likely has much life let at 7500. It might easily go 20,000 miles.
Or just use the oil life monitor if you have one.

In my Model S, I keep the whole bottle in the front. It has completely got ridden of oil consumption issues. No need for high mileage as long as you keep the tightly sealed bottle under the mat

Ok so it goes in the front part but where do you pour it in? I only see one spot but I thought it was wiper fluid? I guess I'll try there??

Bought two jugs about 2 weeks ago @ 27.xx each. Asked Wally for a price difference refund and got rejected. Am being told by the cust rep that they have a new policy in place against it. Screw you Wally.
