Western Digital Red Plus NAS HD (CMR) - 4TB - $90, 6TB - $130, 8TB - $150, 10TB - $189

WD Red Plus Nas drives for those buying a NAS during black friday. These are the better CMR drives and not SMR.

4TB - $89.99
6TB - $129.99
8TB - $149.99
10TB - $188.99

The 8TB is the best value but I haven't seen any of the 4TB CMR drives for this low in a while.

slickdeals keeps botching my links and redirecting to a 404 so you may need to copy and paste this:

depends on what you're looking for. For 6TB, the pro drive is better since it's just $6 more for 5 year warranty vs the 3 year on the Plus. The WD Red Pro does run hotter (and probably louder) since it's 7200rpm

If you're looking for other size drives, like the 4TB or 8TB, the WD Red Plus prices are cheaper directly from the WD site

Does the speed between the plus and the pro make any kind of real world difference? Or is your bottleneck still the gigabit connection?

It like kind of works, but then not. PayPal will say payment was submitted, but on the WD site it say PayPal not available. Weird.

I know they have certain drives that are just for surveillance, but are reds suitable for surveillance too?

I think for the most part the bottleneck would still be the gigabit. NAS is mainly for storage so the rpm boost really doesn't do anything other than increase heat, power usage, and noise imo. Streaming over gigabit should be no problem

CMR (EFRX) are the desirable ones not the EFAX.

WD20EFAX (2TB)
WD30EFAX (3TB)
WD40EFAX (4TB)
WD60EFAX (6TB)

yeah thats what it did for me. I ended up getting 3 emails from paypal, but not confirmation from WD. On my credit card, there actually are 3 charges and 3 refunds for the amount (so not charged in the end). I ended up just making the purchase...and of course it ends up being on back order

But then you can't get 10% cashback from a website that shall not be named.

Just for clarification, the models for the Red Plus are as follows:
WD10EFRX (1TB)
WD20EFRX (2TB)
WD30EFRX (3TB)
WD40EFRX (4TB)
WD60EFRX (6TB)
WD80EFAX (8TB)
WD101EFAX (10TB)
WD120EFAX (12TB)
WD140EFFX (14TB)

You only need to worry about SMR on the 2, 3, 4, and 6TB EFAX models (which these are not). 8TB EFAX models and above are CMR:
