Apple is the only place selling the 16GB right now, and AFAICT if you order it from them online you'll get it at the end of December or early January. Rumor was that third party retailers would start to sell them in mid-December, but unless Apple was planning to significantly ramp up production I don't see that happening.

No, they don't verify, it's on the honor system. Any email will work for ordering. Also, the CB site I use does offer 1% at Adorama vs 0% at Apple on laptops. So that would equal an additional $9-20 off compared to the EDU store.

I'm also waiting for the next generation for the kinks get smoothed out & for more developers to update their apps.

With these computers, it looks like most Intel programs should emulate fine, but ppl should do their research to make sure the apps they regularly use are properly supported.

I know there's some audio production & software developer tools that still aren't supported yet.

I really was hoping to upgrade from my 2017 model but buying the same RAM and SSD 3 years later doesn't make sense at all. Also being a guinea pig for the M1 processor isn't a wise choice either.
