If you can, I'd wait for the 2021 refresh design (thin bazels etc) and much better performance. This is just M1 remember....

I believe kalatoker was saying since it's the same price as Apple edu AND you can upgrade the SSD and RAM there, might as well get it from Apple rather than Adorama. I agree. 16GB RAM upgrade at Apple.edu is $180 vs the normal $200.

Tip: Buy 10x $100 Apple Gift cards from Target (or Best Buy when that goes live). Use that to buy your MacBook from Apple edu. Then you have $200 in Target gift cards left over. Also, don't forget to use your favorite cash back sites and/or credit card rewards mall offers if applicable.
I was wondering if anyone tried this and it actually worked

Agreed not a great deal. The benchmarks so far indicate that 16GB may be unnecessary with the efficiency of the new chip.
I was watching benchmarking/performance tests on the M1, I don't remember which one it was but they were doing some 4K video editing/exporting and we're getting out of memory prompts with the 8GB of ram and suggested for that type of usage you should get 16. Again I forget which video it was, but I'd think in the large majority of cases... 8 GB is fine

The m1 chip is amazing. Got this on launch day and love it. I can't kill the battery in 3 days. The laptop is always cool/cold and very snappy at everything. For those who worry about 8gb, check out reviews. It was very hard to surpass 8gb usage.

No 16gb ram. Deal sucks and adorama charges taxes. Just get it from apple edu.
Do they actually verify or ask for proof if you order from their edu store?

Apple is the only place selling the 16GB right now, and AFAICT if you order it from them online you'll get it at the end of December or early January. Rumor was that third party retailers would start to sell them in mid-December, but unless Apple was planning to significantly ramp up production I don't see that happening.
Yes bought from Apple last week. Upgraded the Macbook air to 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM. First email regarding shipping on Dec 16th. Got another email that it is delayed by 10 days now.

Yep. Id avoid this shitty company and just by directly from Apple. Adorama is filled with complaints of scams and being sent broken/wrong items and no response by their customer support.

I personally had a problem with them, filed a complaint with the BBB and they basically told me to piss off through the BBB and refused to acknowledge their shitty ranking

Can you expand on this? That's kind of a confusing statement.

No, they don't verify, it's on the honor system. Any email will work for ordering. Also, the CB site I use does offer 1% at Adorama vs 0% at Apple on laptops. So that would equal an additional $9-20 off compared to the EDU store.
Pardon my ignorance, what is CB site ?

As much as i like the m1 chips i would rather wait for gen2 m2 chips. Its amazing what apple has done with their chipsets. As long as third party support gets involved i can see it as the future
M1X is coming out
