Quote from HighTechnology :
So we have about 8 Powerline II cables and 3 Powerline III cables. I have 3 teens, a spouse and myself, and combined we have 10 iOS devices (iPhones & iPads)...

Most of the PL II cables fail somewhere around the 2-year mark for my kids. My wife's 2 cables and my two cables are still fine going on about 3 years. All the failed ones were replaced under warranty (probably 5 so far), but Anker seems to have changed their policy now. They used to simply require the Amazon invoice and a picture, whereas now they require the old cable to be sent back.

Of course, I don't mind that they want the old cable to come back, but their process for the last few exchanges has been as follows:

1) submit warranty claim, describing issue. I know to provide them with the invoice and a picture/description, and I also tell them that I already tried to clean the connector and tried on another device (see step #2)
2) wait 48 hours or so to get a reply, which basically asks if you tried cleaning the connector, tried a different device -- all of which I already told them I did.
3) Reply and tell them this was already done
4) About 48 hours later they will send a label to send the old cable back, which I did.
5) About 7-10 days later you will receive your replacement cable.

So, you'll be without the cable for about 2 weeks.

What I can tell from my experience is the following (my own opinions, of course):
1) These cables are better quality than most, but do fail at the Lightning Connector end like most others -- just a poor design (by Apple) with very thin wires and inadequate strain relief.
2) Anker doesn't really design the cable to last for even 5 years, but assumes people will forget they are under warranty or not want to be bothered.
3) Sadly they don't offer an advance replacement option, where you can somehow pay for the new cable (or leave a CC deposit), which is credited back.
4) Perhaps the first or second replacement is really "No questions asked", but the subsequent ones require the return -- I don't know. I suppose we are in a minority of having bought so many cables and had 5 or so replacements thus far.
I have a ton of their cables and over the years found they hold up better than most others. I do have a few that have problems but I haven't gotten around to sending them back. I just ordered a few more of the 10' lightning to the old USB plug and the 6' lightning to USB-C but plan to take some time soon to initiate replacements for the broken ones. I have one that frayed at the lightning connector but still works for now (although I suspect it will give out soon as the wires inside are very thin). Before it frayed, the insulation on that end became yellow/brown as if it had heated up or something. I have another one that has yellowing at the lightning end but still works and isn't frayed and I have one that only works when the lightning plug is inserted one way but not the other.
