These are my daily drivers for trail running and hiking. Note that the tongue across the top of the shoe is sewn in and MUCH tighter than on past Lone Peak shoes if you've used those but haven't used the 4.5s. I almost returned mine when I got them because I couldn't wear them for more than 20 mins at first without having to take them off. But I've gotten used to it and love them now.
Also of course these are zero drop shoes so read up on that if you've never used them. I have ankle problems and I've found an added side benefit of the zero drop is my ankle stability is much better since my foot is lower to the ground. On the flipside I have calf/achilles issues so zero drop isn't great for that but I deal with it to save the ankles.
About 200 miles in on a pair of these. They start to break down quickly in my opinion compared to Salomons for both the midsole and the upper. Very comfy however, and the upper material is fantastic at keeping fine dust out of your socks. They dry quickly, great breathability. Sole has been good in Utah on varying conditions, laces are great, no real complaints other than durability.
For those coming from other brands with a drop, these are zero - my achilles ached a bit when I was getting used to them. I think I still prefer a small drop, but every foot is different!
Highly recommended. I ran a 50mile ultra last year in Altra Lone Peak 4.0. They still have some life left in them
I tried a bunch of different shoes but ultimately settled on Altra. Zero drop, wide toebox, very comfy. I have heard that Topo is very similar though I have not personally tried them.
I agree that they "appear wide" and I'd bother trying them on in-store. Online, my feet are kind of ridiculously shaped and it's not worth it if they aren't labeled "wide" or "very wide".
Received mine and quite impressed with them. Much better quality and finish then all the Merrells I had in the past, and I was a big fan of those. Toes will have plenty of room, very happy about that too. Bridge/instep is just about right, could have a bit more room.

Getting old sucks.
