Not true. The Kamado Joe Jr. has more surface area to cook. The 15' is the overall size of the this Kamado not the cooking area. I'd go with the Kamado Joe Jr. Warranty is awesome with Kamado.

Kamado Joe Jr in a heartbeat! I bought one of these, although they're ok, I ended up getting a Joe Jr. Way better quality! And only $50 more..... Besides it'll match your Big Joe later.

Go for the Joe Jr. Even if it was $100 more, it's worth it.

Just found this for $224 at walmart https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lifesm.../458879189
Do ya'll still think that I should get a kamado joe for $170 more and without a stand, side shelves. cover and electric starter? I would really appreciate any advices or personal experiences from actual owners of this ceramic grill. Thank you.

I agree with the poster that said to go with the Jr even if it cost $100 more. If you have the need or swing for the Classic I that is or was on sale recently at Kamado Joe for $600 that would be even better. Go as big as you can now so you don't ever have a need to upgrade because of size and you can always add accessories. You will not regret it. Enjoy the grilling regardless whichever you end up with.

I've the Akorn for 5.5 years and no complaints with only a cover replacement. It probably can go another 4.5 years. This is my go to with a small group and every weekend grilling. I added the big joe ii a year ago and use it for a big group gathering which hasn't happened much since the pandemic. Over the past year I probably added every accessories that comes with the big joe iii plus more but I could have the 4 extra inch of height if I went with the iii model. I probably will not ever have a need for the extra height but good to have. Just my 2 cents.

I got previous model of this from Walmart for $174 from Walmart 3 weeks ago. Haven't tested it yet but it's really small. Might return.

My recommendation is to return it if you already think it's small otherwise you will end up upgrading in the very near future. I bought the Akorn because I didn't want to swing too much for a grill at the time but over the years I learned to appreciate grilling more and more.

I passed on the Kamado Joe jr for $299, it's to small for a turkey, and I don't want to waste 6 hrs cooking anything. Lump charcoal is expensive.

I have a propane roaster that does a pork roast in about 2 hrs, turkeys, chickens, etc, I purchased it 5 yrs ago, still cooking on it. It's not great as a smoker, as the temp is a little high at 250. Low as it will go. It does killer pork roast. I got mine on sale at the time for under $100.

Pay attention to instructions on seasoning barrel, or it will rust. I don't keep it where it will get wet.

I have the Walmart version with the smaller stand and this has been an excellent grill. I have a KJ Classic II for bigger cooks but, for my wife and I, this little grill is perfect, uses less charcoal, and has made some absolutely awesome steaks and grilled chicken. We went camping last weekend with a large group of friends and took this grill along with my Akorn Jr and this grill will hold heat for several hours past the Akorn Jr. I can carry the Akorn Jr by myself but it takes two people to move this guy around. The electric starter works well but I do wish it had a removable ash tray. Can't compare it to the Joe Jr because I've never used one but, this little grill works great. One of the guys camping with us has the small BGE and he said he preferred this design of this over his because his little egg is very shallow. I've only used it for grilling and haven't used the indirect plate yet but, when I shut down the vents, it takes at least 4 hours for it to cool down enough to put the cover on.

How do you clean the ashes on this grill? I heard that this doesn't have an ash tray.
Also, most of the reviews state that they have problems with cracking in the inner ceramic after few uses. Did you also have that problem?
