At this point there needs to be a listing of things not to buy on Amazon because of comingling and fakes. I go to the store to get Sonicare brush heads because so many reviews for the 'genuine' listing on Amazon say they got counterfeits. Whether sellers actually trying to scam people or Amazon trying to repackage used items as brand new or not even bothering to look at it at all (see: couple that got used baby diapers from Warehouse).
I hate buying Direct From Manufacturer though because so many of them will spend more working hours trying to reject your refund than the product is worth. I do have to give PNY props for quickly sending a better SSD 2 years after one failed, though.
It's unfortunate that this "used product" comment gets so much attention. Yes, I would be upset too if I received a used product. I have some doubt in the review though.
The reviewer didn't mention how he confirm the used drive. If he has data from SMART SSD tool, he could have shared that.
He did mentioned that "amazon rep said refund an no need to return the drive". So probably that's was part of the problem. Since this product has "Free return". It would have been easy to contact Amazon to get a refund for any reason. In the worst case he has to send the drive back. He is asking to be compensated to uninstall the drive from his computer. He didn't mention that he paid somebody to install it. So I think that's bit is unfair to Amazon.
Samsung is the loser there as their reputation is damaged even without being involved in any bit of that mess.
Lastly, I wonder if Amazon will delete this review. Just a month ago Amazon screw up badly. I ordered an item that clearly says 2-pack; but I only got one. Contacted Amazon, they help me returned the original one and promised to send a new 2-pack. The new shipment was sent and went missing. Contacted them again, got promised that they will really send a 2-pack, 100%. A few days later, got the replacement. Still only one item inside.
I wrote this story as a review, rated the product 4/5 stars. Amazon send me an email saying that the review violated their terms and conditions. So it can't be published.
the 860 EVO was just 99

Read the review from 10/15/20 and decided to pass.

Yes, plenty of good reviews. The fact it is a 4bit rather than a 3 bit means it is slower and will not last as long. That is the down side of a QVO per the reviewer.

THIS info, from the Amazon reviewer about receiving a "used" drive marked as new and all the drama that followed was the nail in the coffin! Who want's to deal with that?!

Here is what they said regarding detecting the fact it was used:
"The catch is that that software can only be used to diagnose a drive after it has been installed internally to a direct SATA connection. Their software couldn't diagnose the drive through an HDMI connection to an external dock unfortunately.
It turned out to be a used drive. It had been wiped and reformatted but it had been written to before."
Beyond "first world problems"..... but I want to be able to scroll. I don't want to have to open and click to know that it's something I'm not interested in for the available price. Is that too much to ask?!
Fry's had the 1TB Samsung EVO for the same price a few days ago, which is a much better deal than the QVO. That is if you have a Fry's in the area for pick up (unfortunately I don't).

You already know how. You want to know why.
