I agree with the backlit keyboard, it's kind of annoying but not a deal breaker for some people. Unless you don't use an external keyboard and constantly use the laptop in the dark, it shouldn't be an issue.

Fan noise, hard to say. Depends on a lot of factors. Dell has bad reputation on thermal too. They both do.

Edit: I got this for $585 shipped in California with 13% cashback from Be Frugal

I agree with you. As a matter of fact, I ordered the HP Ryzen 7 4700U with 8gb ram and 256gb ssd on Thanksgiving deal for 390$ with taxes after cashback. My cousin works at Dell and gave 17% off coupon and got the dell 11th gen i7 with 8gb RAM and 256ssd for 435$ with tax after dell employee discount code and cashback. I will try both laptops and keep the one that I like.

Sounds good. Specs wise, HP wins. But lots of other emotional factors will come into play. Don't forget HP may charge you restocking fee tho.

I agree. If I have to return HP I have to find a reason to return and I don't think that's difficult. If not, I will have to dispute with credit card.

Curious, I bought the Ryzen 7 version of this with 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD yesterday.

I added this to my cart when I first saw it, but by the time that I read all of the messages it was out-of-stock

I tried to look at the $400 i7, but it became problematic, so I did not test the coupon code.

Backlit keyboards are still free upgrades.

A 256 GB SSD wasn't available yesterday, but now it is a $60 upgrade.

Upgrading to FHD now costs $100!

Upgraded memory and storage are only $100 more than I paid yesterday.

500 GB WD SSD for $50 [westerndigital.com].
8 GB Samsung RAM module for $29 [amazon.com].

Why hasn't anyone mentioned TCB? I was supposed to get 12% back, but it has been almost a day, and I still do not have any activity.

Five people posted about the $400 Ryzen 7 deal yesterday. One person accused it of having soldered RAM, but nobody looked into it, although I found two disassembly videos, the repair manual, and the parts list showing removable modules.

One person mentioned an ongoing problems with HP laptop users trying to use the microphone. I don't know if they are just experiencing feedback, but allegedly this leads to the notebooks crashing. I followed up, but nobody else seemed to pay attention.

As for those considering Lenovos, I bought my current laptop last month and it periodically freezes. I bought it, with some hesitation, to replace another Lenovo that freezes and crashes regularly.
