Even though these are $2 more per TB, I am tempted to return my four 14TB drives for four of these. Probably makes sense to upgrade as needed, but is can be expensive to upgrade a 4-6 drive RAID array.

I would. There's power and space savings, and I find that drives become too small to be practical before they actually fail, when they are used as pure archival solutions for large files as these typically are. For frequent read/writes of small files, its better to store that on a "cheap" 2TB SSD.
You also don't necessarily need 4-6 of these, and can just expand in the future as needed.
