S & B Golden Curry Sauce Mix, Medium Hot

'Golden Curry' is made with S & B original curry powder and features rich aroma of spices and herbs. A block of Golden Curry Sauce Mix consisting of curry powder, flour, spices and seasoning could quickly transform mundane stew into fine curry simply by adding them to the mixture. Well-balanced mellowness and spiciness for most people. S & B Golden Curry Sauce Mix contains no meat or meat derived ingredients.

Enjoy with rice, bread, noodles, and buns, etc. Using it as a sauce for potatoes or meat dishes, or as a dipping sauce for steamed vegetables is another way to enjoy.

Ingredients: Wheat Flour, Vegetable Oils (Palm Oil, Rapeseed Oil), Salt, Sugar, Curry Powder, Monosodium Glutamate, Caramel Color, Spices (Pepper, Chili Pepper, Garlic, Celery Seed, Mustard), Malic Acid, Disodium Inosinate, Disodium Guanylate

I buy the large box 5-pack for half the cost per oz.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

The large box feeds about 6 adults.

8 x 3/4 cup scoops of rice
~2.8 lbs of pork
carrots
potatoes
onions

I've tried a bunch of japanese box curries.

I would say golden is easily the worst. I'm not saying its inedible but if you compare it to vermont curry (the other easily accessible curry brand in the states), its just not nearly as good.

Personally my favorite brand is kokumaro

Seems those you mentioned are all rated roughly the same. I'll have to try your suggestions.

When I make beef crockpot stew i use half a brick. Just enough curry so the kids like it but not overpowering.

any medium or mild?
These aren't bad for spiciness. I usually shoot for medium to hot on foods in general, but with these, I buy the very hot all the time and don't find it any different. I would take their spice ratings down a notch from expectations of what medium or hot may be.

My GF makes this all the time. In for 2.

It's cheaper at the Asian market, but for us we need to drive 2 hours to get to one, so this deal is perfect.

It's not Indian curry, but it is awesome. The gf always cooks beef, potato, onion and carrot with this and serves it over rice. Everyone that eats it loves it.

You have to understand this is Japanese instant curry which really tastes nothing like Indian or any south east asian curry. I don't mind the taste but you really have to go in with proper expectations. This is the type of curry that some Japanese restaurants serve with Don Katsu. Even the "authentic" version of this curry tastes nothing like Indian curry as caramelized onions are essentially used as the base which makes this curry thick and sweet.
Yeah - I made some of this years ago and while it was fine, not what I was looking for. I frankly struggle to find a good brand of premade yellow curry which is my favorite at my local Thai spot but it never compares - most seem to call for mixing with coconut milk and the coconut flavor is overpowering. Any recommendations for brands of hot yellow, massaman or spicy Indian currys? (I guess I should just learn to cook them from scratch...)

I think Vermont is too sweet. I like Golden cause I can build off it. Always add aromatics so its a good starting point and I can find Golden in a lot more stores. My favorite by a mile is Kokumaro

I prefer extra hot ver but this is a very good japanese style curry (rice). I think my local hamrt has them for $3 each and $2 when on sale.

there are a plethora of great youtubers who have homemade curry recipes be it japanese style, indian, hybrid, whatever you call it. I don't understand asking for recipes on a slickdeals forum post. Google is your absolute best friend.

House Foods brand is better but this S&B brand is really good, too and often on sale at local Asian grocery stores like Hmart and Lotte (7.8oz package for 2.99)

I was raised in Hawaii eating this and I personally love it! Growing up it was a cheap n easy meal for my mom to make especially on a limited budget. I make it with chicken katsu or spam katsu for my family and they all love it. Just my opinion.

A friend gave me some recently. Frankly, it was awful, the whole family agreed. Just read the first 4 ingredients and see if you're tempted.
Wheat flour, vegetable oil, salt, sugar. I don't see what the problem is?
