S & B Golden Curry Sauce Mix, Medium Hot

'Golden Curry' is made with S & B original curry powder and features rich aroma of spices and herbs. A block of Golden Curry Sauce Mix consisting of curry powder, flour, spices and seasoning could quickly transform mundane stew into fine curry simply by adding them to the mixture. Well-balanced mellowness and spiciness for most people. S & B Golden Curry Sauce Mix contains no meat or meat derived ingredients.

Enjoy with rice, bread, noodles, and buns, etc. Using it as a sauce for potatoes or meat dishes, or as a dipping sauce for steamed vegetables is another way to enjoy.

Ingredients: Wheat Flour, Vegetable Oils (Palm Oil, Rapeseed Oil), Salt, Sugar, Curry Powder, Monosodium Glutamate, Caramel Color, Spices (Pepper, Chili Pepper, Garlic, Celery Seed, Mustard), Malic Acid, Disodium Inosinate, Disodium Guanylate

Hydrogenated oil aka trans fats
If you're worried about trans fat, you should check the nutritional label (5g fat per serving, 3g of which is saturated, zero trans fat).

On a side note, doesn't seem like that great a price. I usually find the bigger packs for about the same price at most asian groceries in my area. And Java>{Torokeru,Kokumaro,Vermont}>Golden

I love this curry sauce, we make a pot at least once a year for our Halloween party. It's really simple and delicious.
Sometimes it's hard to find at Walmart (half the time it's not with the Asian foods) and Publix is a dollar more. Great find, repped!

Agreed that this stuff is fine, but pretty much all the other brands of Japanese curry are better. Serious Eats did a pretty good breakdown of all the brands that are easily available in the States: https://www.seriouseats.com/2010/...umaro.html

You have to understand this is Japanese instant curry which really tastes nothing like Indian or any south east asian curry. I don't mind the taste but you really have to go in with proper expectations. This is the type of curry that some Japanese restaurants serve with Don Katsu. Even the "authentic" version of this curry tastes nothing like Indian curry as caramelized onions are essentially used as the base which makes this curry thick and sweet.
Japanese curry rice (karre raizu) is a Japanese take on a British stew that uses Indian spices. It's basically a beef stew (though I usually make it with chicken thighs) and it's delicious in its own right.

That said ... curry roux is insanely easy to make on your own. It's basically butter, flour, curry powder (S&B Japanese style curry powder if you want to be authentic) Garam Masala and cayenne pepper.

https://www.justonecookbook.com/h...urry-roux/

I make it in my Instant Pot using this recipe.

Sometimes I use the homemade roux but I do try to keep the roux in my pantry for times when I don't feel like making it from scratch.

Contains MSG (neurotoxin) and hydrogenated oils (aka trans fat) this stuff is terrible for you.
MSG actually is not bad for you in quantities that you consume it, plus if you eat mushrooms, cheese or broccoli you've had MSG before. If it really bugs you, just make your own.

Yeah - I made some of this years ago and while it was fine, not what I was looking for. I frankly struggle to find a good brand of premade yellow curry which is my favorite at my local Thai spot but it never compares - most seem to call for mixing with coconut milk and the coconut flavor is overpowering. Any recommendations for brands of hot yellow, massaman or spicy Indian currys? (I guess I should just learn to cook them from scratch...)
I've always had good luck with the Mae Ploy curry. They make a red/green and yellow. If you don't like a strong coconut flavor, just use less... Make up for it with more chicken stock. I like to add a bit of curry power to all of mine.
