for $40 more i got a seasonic prime 1000w platinum. maybe a waste, but seasonic is quality brand.

I've got a 1300w Seasonic gold that was about $250 and a 3080 FTW3 Hybrid. This specific Superflower PSU was on my short list when I bought my Seasonic.
Top tier models from any brand used to go for around $75~$100 on sale. It costs two to three times more in pandemic times due to demand. Not unreasonable.
Someone did mention emphatically to bring manufacturing back not too long ago. I'm sure you can imagine what it would cost if it is made here.
