Out of all of the Google Assistant displays, the JBL has the best sound quality, hands down. With the small subwoofer, it generates more bass than any other Google smart display.
If you want the display more for the digital photo aspect first and the sound second, I recommend the Google Nest Hub. Google did an amazing job with their adaptive displays and they easily beat out the glossy, computer screen look of the Lenovo and JBL displays. They can also be found for around half this price (on sale).
The Lenovo is still noteworthy and isn't bad at all. The speaker may even be better than the Google Nest Hub.
All of that being said, if you are only looking for a Google Assistant device and a good sounding speaker, the JBL Link 300 is an awesome option. It brings a significant amount of bass and produces clean sound even at high volumes. I have not noticed any difference in it's Google Assistant experience in comparison to any of my other Google branded Google Assistant devices. You can find them open-box or refurb on eBay for probably half this price and get two for what you would pay for one of these JBL displays. Two Link 300s would give you a formidable sounding speaker setup.
It is really all personal preference amongst these selections for Google Assistant devices. What you are looking for and how you listen to your media content can help dictate if you need/want a device with a screen or if you could save money on just a smart speaker

Repped for awesome post. How would you compare microphone sensitivity (especially with music playing) between your different devices? Are the non-Google brands just as good? I have to shout if music is playing for my Insignia Google speaker to hear me. Microphone is noticeably worse than my Google branded ones.
Don't know about TV, but it has played YouTube movies and I can cast HULU from my phone.

The sound is great. It doesn't surprise me that JBL was able to pull it off but I'm really commenting to echo your comments:
1. Compared to the old Google Home I have this thing doesn't always hear me. Sometimes I end up repeating myself a couple of times, especially if music is playing. My voice is extremely deep, I don't know if that has anything to do with it but it occurs quite a bit. It just seems the original home can hear "through" the noise that it's making and know that I'm talking to it. I also had this same problem with the Insignia Google Home device.
2. I have that bug you mentioned where I expect it to start doing something and it just doesn't do it. It doesn't happen enough that I don't use the thing. It just happens enough for me to notice. However, I don't know if it's the Youtube or Spotify apps that are responsible or the device.
3. To echo someone else, my JBL also loses connection a lot. There's nothing I can other than to wait for it to figure out how to reconnect. It's right next to the router in my office so since I'm usually working when it happens I can say that nothing else loses connection. This thing might do it 4 or 5 times a day.
But otherwise it's a great speaker. I remember when it was about $300 a few years back.
Glad you saw that cuz I thought I was going crazy. There's also a few people thumbing down all the bad reviews in the thread. Hilarious what Slickdeals is turning into these days
