Sounds like a continuation from Christmas sales.

I picked this up and have been using for about a month. While I have not seen any video issues, I occasionally get a lag of ~10 sec before the audio kicks on when watching specific content. I have experienced a few other things such as specific settings not saving and sound mixing with my center does not always sound perfect. Thick could be blamed in the content though.

Since owning it, I have received 2 firmware updates labeled as 'bug fixes' so at least they are trying to do the right thing.

Sometimes I think this sounds very warm and satisfying... Other times I miss my 11 yr old Onkyo.

Over, my satisfaction is about 7/10.

Is it worth $330? Given what else is out there, yeah. But just keep in mind it may take Yamaha some time to fix what should not have been released as broken.
I purchased at my local Costco for the same price back in Nov. The Yamaha AVR runs at least 6-8 hours everyday in our household with no issues whatsoever.

Yamaha TSR-700 AVR (currently on firmware 1.26)
LG CX 65" OLED (currently on firmware 3.21.09)
Xfinity XG1v4 4K STB
Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player
Zeskit 8K high speed HDMI cables all the way around

Definitive Technology ProSub 800
Klipsch Quintet SL 5.0 Speakers

Logitech Harmony One Remote
I hope I don't jinx things, but I've owned this receiver for almost 2 months now with zero issues. With all the negative issues with hdmi arc and 4k etc I thought I was rolling the dice. Nope, it's been running great.

I did buy a few new hdmi cables just in case lol

AV newb here. If you have a 5.1.2 setup on this, and use pandora/spotify to play music, does the music play through all of the speakers, including the ceiling? And if so are you able to manually isolate the music output to play through a specific configuration?

In context, I would like the overhead speakers to be able to play music, as I have an open concept kitchen/living room.

Thank you
If you choose pure direct or straight play through, you'll only get sound out of the speakers that are receiving a signal directly ie sub, front left, and front right. You can use a surround program mode to simulate a surround signal to your other speakers. I'd assume this would include the overheads, but I don't have any myself so I can't say for sure.

Hey just posted a separate comment, but yeah I'm running earc with most of my other devices connected directly to tv (XSX, PC w/ 3080) with no issues. Not sure what TV you have but also the LG CX remote integrates with it flawlessly and haven't had any issues with it not powering off or on with the TV, not recognizing volume changes, etc.
Can you tell me any issues you have with this receiver and your LG CX? Thanks.

Looks like with all the ongoing issues, I should just wait.
I don't need another receiver until at least May anyway.
I currently have a Yamaha receiver (non Atmos) that I'll just keep for now.

Fair warning. The way spotify works with receivers breaks the zone 2 functionality. Spotify Connect can only see the main receiver. So if you are say watching the game inside and want to listen to some spotify in zone 2 out on the patio, you'd have to first activate it on both zones, start it, and then change zone 1 back to the game. Anytime you stop or disconnect you have to do it again. Quite annoying and spotify and receiver manufacturers blame each other. Workaround would be to use a dedicated bluetooth receiver into an input and then connect spotify to bluetooth and turn on that input to zone 2.

Sure, I don't really have any issues. Only small thing I can think of is sometimes it takes 5-10 seconds for audio to hookup to internal apps when the TV is first turned on.

I bought this when it first showed up ($399 costco/$599 best buy)and really enjoyed it - I had 9.3 speakers connected to it (7 floor speakers, 2 atmos and 3 subs), multiple 4k HDR devices (PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, FireTV Stick, UDP-203) plus legacy devices (PS3 & Analog audio inputs), outputting to an LG OLED C6P and had no issues with color, inputs, HDR Banding (Dolby vision or HDR10), sound loss, white dots, etc..
The only thing I couldn't test was 8K60 or 4K120 (which I understand are both 'broken')

The 7 HDMI inputs on the TSR-700 were really nice to have. I also enjoy the look of it, but I understand that this is a YMMV thing. Having a nice, clean design on the front was very nice compared to the ones with all of the USB, Analog, HDMI and buttons on the front of most AVRs.

Atmos worked really well and the auto-switching of speakers was great (it lets you connect 9 speakers, but only uses 7 at a time.. it alternates from 7.2 surround to 5.1.2 atmos based on audio tracks, which was great - in most other 5.1.2 systems I've seen, you either get 5.1.2 (during atmos) or 5.1 on non-atmos tracks. Having the option to plug 2 rear surrounds in for a 7.1 experience was very nice). This is all done automatic, so no needing to re-configure it each time.

Lots of HDMI Inputs, MusicCast was nice, sound was good.. it even named all of my inputs as soon as I plugged them in (PS4, UDP-203, Xbox One, etc..)

My only complaints: It's only 7.2 / 5.1.2 -- I ended up returning it for the Denon x3600h since it went on sale and could do 11.2 (7.2.4).

The audio scale is a little weird. Instead of 0-50 it's something like -60 to +40
And the audio calibration is nowhere near as nice as Audyssey XT32 on the Denon.

For $399, I was more than happy with it.

I believe a lot of the HDMI issues people are experiencing MIGHT be tied to HDMI ARC? I don't use that, but I know it causes a lot of problems. And the 8K60/4K120 thing will be a hassle since it can't be fixed with firmware. Yamaha has committed to fixing it.. but that might mean mailing back a hefty receiver.

I tried the new denon and yamaha (higher end than this) and sent them both back for various issues with either poor sound or awful menu/level adjustment restrictions but ultimately the known 4k/120 hardware issue in both. My Yamaha 1900 sounded better than both anyway. I'm running all video to my LG and sending optical out to my Yamaha and its the best solution by far. I lose a few sound modes, but I only have/want 5.1 anyway. Unless you are desperate for a new receiver, I'd highly recommend waiting until the new chipsets are out and the manufacturers have a plan. Denon won't even tell you what they will do for you once the chipsets are out... they wouldn't even promise me that it would be swapped/fixed for no cost nor could they tell me if they would ship a replacement ahead or if i would have to ship and wait. Imagine if its the latter? Thousands of people sending in their receivers and waiting for months with nothing.
Sadly, optical is limited to DD+/DTS. DTS-HD/DD True are significantly better formats (yes, even for 5.1).

Sound is actually really good from this receiver, but you'll need to EQ the sub.

why would you have to do that 🤔🙄

Shifty device. Returned mine after getting sooooo frustrated with its super bad interface. For it to reappear is not the best sign. That means Yamaha still have more to get rid if.
Save your $350.

Had to return mine because of too many issues. Any idea if the Denon AVR-S750H will be back on sale on 1/17 as well? Want to try another brand.

Returned mine after 3 months, buggy, lifeless sound - way under powered .

100% this! I was definitely afraid of being stuck with a dud and returned it too. I just don't have any faith that Yamaha would open a big recall and repair/replace a faulty chip in the receiver if that's the only way to fix the problem. That's bound to cost over $100 per receiver with shipping costs (unless the consumer will be expect to shoulder some of the shipping costs) and would they do that for a $340 dollar receiver? They said they'll fix it but didn't say guarantee a no cost fix. And notice there's been no new press releases for 2 months.

There's a reason its a blow out price....
They're going to have a lawsuit on their hands if they don't fix it.

How does this compare to the other 2 receivers sold at Costco: Denon AVR-S750H and Onkyo TX-NR595?

Guess who gets all the money in a lawsuit? The class action members probably get a coupon for 20 percent off a Yamaha t shirt.

I have the Yamaha, I really hate that it's an on screen menu only. Can't make major adjustments using the LCD on the unit. I have to turn the TV on and to the specific input
Does it have a phone app you could use? Just saying. I do all from the app with my Pio.

Bought this last time it went on sale. Works perfect with my 5040ub HDR 4k projector and Shield. Decodes audio perfect, passes 4k perfect.
