Great AVR for the money! I will keep it.
Having said that.
Those who are not familiar with Yamaha idiosyncratic UI or hate to search the internet to configure this Receiver,
Stay AWAY!
1.0 idiosyncratic UI
2.0 Long Delay. Those use Harmony remotes, need to add delay
3.0 bi-amp config allows only 5 speakers max
4.0 Atmos setting:very counterintuitive
5.0 the dial knobs are plasticy and fragile
6.0 ease of use on the scale of 1-10: 6
7.0 ease of setup on the scale of 1-10:3 (with latest firmware)
I've got the TSR-7850 and if it weren't for a very helpful dedicated thread on AVS forums, I might've ended up returning mine due to My frustration with it.
Using the controller app on my tablet during setup also helped simplify things for me vs. using onscreen menus.
fwiw- I was coming from an 8 year Sony AVR which was much simpler to set up but to be fair it had a lot less features to control.
I have since switched everything to be directly connected to my TV and run 1 HDMI cable from TV to AVR via (e)ARC.
I have no issues and the input always remain on TV now, so no need to ever change it.
Apparently the latest Yamaha receivers all have this restriction according to this link:

So, here is my current setup: PC->AV>TV.
Appreciate the input
The BR03's are listed as 8ohm impedance/90dB sensitivity and a max of 100 watts, that "potential" has a lot of wiggle room.
In my experience they really aren't too hard to drive, you will not get close to 100 watts especially with a 3.1 setup in an apartment.
If you really "believe" you need more power and you don't need all the current features new receivers offer.
I would recommend looking for an older higher tier model open box or used one on CL/offerup.
This will gives you the power you want and saves you a lot more money.
Investing to much into this while in an apartment may not be cost effective in the long run.
But I don't disagree with you for a 3.1 setup an external amp is probably overkill.

When someone says you "need" to get to it's "full potential" is VERY broad statement.
There a vast many other factors to consider for some measurement/spec/opinion to even come close to telling you whether you "need" it.
