Some notes on the service:
  • Speeds 20-140 mbps download, 5-30 mbps upload depending on your location, time of day, phase of the moon, usage on the network
  • Sometimes the service completely drops out, at least once a day, and my video meetings stop working for 30-120 seconds.
  • Not great for gaming due to latency.
  • You don't have to pay for the box but you will be charged $350+ if you don't return it in good condition at the end of your service.
  • The box forgets its wifi settings when it loses power.
  • It has a battery but the transition from outlet to battery power instigates a reboot of the box.
  • WiFi on the box is not ideal - connect your own access point via the ethernet ports.
  • The box does NAT + DHCP. You cannot bypass this.
  • May require a hard credit pull.

Is this $50 all in or will there be additional tax and fees? Thanks!
The $50 is the price (all in, no extra fees or taxes) as long as you sign up for autopay. Just confirmed with my first bill online.

Amazing how the reps don't even know their own policies!

It's definitely weird. Seems they need more training as they roll this out wider. The rep I had was spot on. She got the cost, the no-cost lease, the soft credit pull, etc. all correct. Others have not been so lucky.

You aren't able to get anything else that is "wired" for $50ish in LA? Does Frontier service your area? You can get 200/200 FIOS for $50.

Around here since the cableco is a monopoloy it's around 100-120 typically for decent internet (unlimited, 400 mbps)

anything cheaper they start putting unacceptable data caps on. like 350 gb, too low for a gamepass user.

i think thats how it is in most area of the usa.

luckily t mobile is making a big push. i had this and mostly liked it, only switched back to cable because they undercut since i had a choice. offered my 400 mbps for 49.50, promised that was good for 12 months, well already here in month 2 they inexplicably increased my bill back to 60. i'll probably be back on tmo soon.

it's not as good or fast as cable but imo the price is worth it and good enough. a surprising advantage for me was how much less clutter it involves than cable. cable involves a modem and router separate, both with power and ethernet cords, and a nasty stiff coax cable somewhere that belongs in the 80's. Tmobile has one device, that since it operates over the airwaves has one power cord, and you can put it anywhere rather than limited to a coax outlet.

i had the white tmo device which is 4g, i understand now you may get the grey tower one which is 5g! cool. although somehow i think the 5g one may not work as well with xbox, nat issues? i didn't really seem to have any problems with the 4g and xbox so, not entirely sure the deal on that. also i believe once everything converts to ipv6 it shouldnt be an issue?

I was going to order T-mobile through chat and they said it's a hard pull. There's no way I will take a credit hit. I offered to prepay the full year and they declined.

I called Spectrum and said that I wanted to cancel my service at the end of the billing cycle and I was switching to T-Mobile. Spectrum offered 12 months for $54.99, so I'm keeping my service with Spectrum.

Spectrum used to have a monopoly in this area. I called Spectrum last year, before T-mobile service was available in this area and they refused to lower my bill. Now that T-Mobile is in this area, Spectrum knows if they don't negotiate, they will lose customers.

Obviously a personal choice, but what's the big deal about a hard pull? Credit score jump back up within months, unless your score is borderline between different tier of financing and the hard pull decrease your score to the point that you have to pay more interest for whatever good/service you are getting...

They don't need to do a hard credit pull for something like this, regardless if my credit is good or bad. It's ridiculous. I told them they can do a soft credit check, which is more than sufficient. I'm reasonable.

I offered to prepay the full year. It's their loss because they don't get my business. Terrible business model in my opinion and they require you to order through chat or by phone, which is a joke. I'm not giving my social security number through chat or phone.

Out of all the cable companies, i've found Spectrum to be not all that bad. The speeds stay near what i'm paying for most of the time, i've experienced few network drops, and their cell phone plan is great since it uses Verizon.
Spectrum is the worst. Signed up January year before last, worked out a deal internet plus basic cable $90 prepaid first month. Bill comes later: $178 no promotions or discounts, still owe for first month. Service canceled in March (they shut off service on the 1st without notice and charged the billing pro-rated for rest of period) supposed to have been paid thru the 24 Feb, $387.

After multiple long calls to incredibly obnoxious and snarky spectrum reps and their managers - who acknowledged the rep committed fraud and billed me for the full package despite telling me he was giving me a promo - they knock off the prorated amount and bill down to $144 (for service I had for 5 weeks total and "prepaid" 4 of those weeks). Will you end up paying hundreds out of pocket if your rep feels like pocketing a promo bonus? Draw of the dice with Spectrum.

Had to pay the unjustifiable bill to get service back after months of back and forth and no service. January of this year they jacked up my basic internet-only bill $20 then automatically applied a $5 off promo that they say could not be undone until January 2022. Oh and they also changed the billing date this happened and then charged me a late fee.

I signed up for Tmobile immediately when I saw this post (last week) and 3 days later cancelled my Spectrum service. Service seems more responsibility responsive than Spectrum. Setup with the app took literally one minute. They also say it's vpn friendly so you can likely make router changes thru the app. I don't notice latency issues when I play streams or youtube, haven't played with the PlayStation on it yet.

If your area is accepting tmobile internet and the alternative is Spectrum: run, don't walk.

100% agree. They will not be getting my business either. I chose to keep my current provider and pay a slightly higher fee than bow down to their ridiculous credit demands. Screw them.

Per my call (which I recorded), it's a soft pull. In addition, they disclose that the router is a no-cost lease and has to be returned when you cancel service. If you don't return it, they can charge you up to $300. Plus, they don't require you to give that info to sign up for the wait list, they require you to give that information when you sign up for service (and it's not via chat).
You can claim differently but I have the chat log to prove they asked for this info over chat; when I refused they closed chat. There's NO reason they should need TWO payment methods on file "If I don't return" the gateway, that's ludicrous.
I also have the incoming call log where they randomly called me to get the payment info for service sign up because I'd signed up for the wait list. Sorry, I wasn't clear on that part.

If I were you I'd check my credit report for hard pull, as well as fraud because it is NOT secure to give banking and credit card info over chat and it's never a good idea to give that info to randos calling on the phone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
