Holy crap.. That's a lot bad things going on... So what's a really good headset?
I really love my Razer Thresher for my PS4. Extremely comfortable, great range, great sound, mutable mic. I've been thinking about getting a second one for the office pc (ps4 and office aren't close enough to practically switch back and forth)

RIP, bought one from Best Buy last week for $200.

Great headset: does Xbox wireless with console and PC, simultaneous Bluetooth (I use it for listening to podcasts from the iPad when playing on the Xbox), and has a 3.5mm jack if your computer has neither Xbox wireless nor Bluetooth.

Two issues: charging is via micro-USB and not USB-C, and wireless range with the Series X (and possibly all Xboxes) is pretty terrible - works fine when I'm on the couch some 10ft from the Xbox and TV, but if I move to the kitchen about 20ft away I get interruptions in audio. Even Bluetooth has better range and consistency.
How's your BT connection on PC? Mine seems very spotty so much, that luckily I already had the Xbox PC adapter and have 0 issues using them that way.

Bluetooth on anything is great: I've used it with my iPad, phone, and laptop (built-in BT, no dongle) and the range is even better than Xbox wireless but sound quality is slightly worse.

Is this much of an upgrade from a Phillips 9500 with a vmoda boom pro? TIA
No way. Wireless connectivity is the only thing. For everything else there never will be a better combination. Except for people's preferences of wired headphone to use of course. I like the fidelity X2 personally but that's cause I didn't try 9500 myself.

But I had the SteelSeries Siberia 800 which is original top of the line wireless model and predecessor of the headphones in this deal and it was awesome. Top quality and no issues like what the new models seem to have. But the sound quality of the wired headphones just way better.

The mic is one of the strongest points of the 7x. Crystal clear.
I can only speak to my own experience. I used the RIG 800LX, Arctis 7x, Astro A50, and Turtle Beach Stealth 700 all within a short span of time. The Arctis 7x had the worst microphone in terms of picking up background noise, by far. The TBs are probably the best in that respect, with the A50s a close second.

I keep the Xbox Party overlay enabled so I can see exactly when my mic is transmitting to the party. Popped up most frequently with the 7x headset.

FYI if you're looking for Non xbox wireless headset:

I was looking for steel series for Xbox 2 weeks ago but were sold out. So I ended up getting a Bose qc35ii.

Then I found out the hard way it can't connect wirelessly with an Xbox and needed a wireless adapter if I wanted to do that.

So I bought the cheapest wireless adapter on Amazon and it turns out it was a "wireless receiver" and what you want is a transmitter.

Spent another $45 for a low latency BT transmitter and it's been working pretty good so far.

General consensus is that the 9x are worse than the new 7x, and that even on the 7x, which have less technical issues, and will work on both the Xbox Series X and PS5, the build quality is just awful, and for the few that have gotten the 7x, they are just falling apart. See reddit steelseries sub, and you will see what I am talking about. Many people with the 7x, reporting that the headphones just fall apart during regular use, still under warranty (the 7x just came out), and steelseries is refusing to replace or fix their headphones.

Add to that that the 7x are only 40mm drivers, that they have fairly weak bass response. I don't know why they would just not have made them 50mm drivers.
I'm a little confused. Are you saying that 7x are technically more reliable and better build quality? Any headphones that fall apart within 6 months and costs over $50($150 for the 7x to be exact) and won't be repaired by the manufacturer(according to your post) is not worth it. If the 9x are worse... and at the $175 price... this would be a horrible buy.

I am thinking about buying them and I guess I'll just watch YouTube reviews of both pair. I trust reddit but at the same time... many reddit users twist the truth. I would hope a company like steelseries would stand by the warrenty.

I am saying that people say the 7x are better on a technical level, less bugs than the 9x, than what I have seen at least. In regards to the build quality, and them taking care of people, if you look on reddit, most of the people report when the headphones snap on them, they are told that is not covered under warranty. Some are.. but it seems as though most are told it isn't covered. The 7x, and the arctix 7 line in general, seem to have an issue with them breaking thru general use. They look like they all use cheap plastic to my eyes.

So here is my overview from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I have the 9x, 7x, turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2, and astro a50 gen 3. My favorite part about the steel series headsets are the extreme comfort...seriously they feel like pillowy feathers on my head so coZy! However the connection on the 9x are awful if you want to take a snack break, bathroom break etc. It will depend on what type of router you have and where it's placed which I have recently changed my routers twice now which shows me this affects it. However the 7x solves this issue and has a rock solid connection but leaves you without the 4 changeable presets that the 9x has as well as bluetooth which seems nice for discord and maybe music but I usually just listen to whatever game I play. The biggest issue I have with the steel series headsets are the fact that they do not get loud enough. I feel like the bass is fine but could be deeper it's more of a natural bass sound and it is acceptable. Directional audio is awesome and detail is great in sounds. The stealth 700 gen 2 are also a very nice headset and build quality seems to be very good they feel solid but the biggest complaint is the clamping force. If you mess with the very limited eq adjusters on the turtle beach app you can get some more detail out of the headset and directional sounds seem pretty good most of the time but I feel a little better on steel series. The turtle beaches also can achieve a little bit higher volume levels I feel if raising up the game dialogue slider. The detail on the steel series seems to be better as well and as for the bass the stealthv700 gen 2 has nice deep rich bass which is a nice improvement over the steel series. The connection on the stealth 700 gen 2 is pretty rock solid as well almost as good as the 7x and puts the 9x to shame for connection range. As for the mics for all three headsets I haven't had any complaints but I have been told there is a difference and that my voice is clearer on the stealth 700 gen 2.

Having said all that I have my old astro a50 gen 3 (which I know was a $300 headset not $150-$200 but still) and they are muuuuuch louder than all these headsets. I feel as all these headsets should be able to ahieve higher volume levels because games like pubg are just quieter and it is difficult to hear fine details and footsteps sometimes on these other headsets (9x,7x,stealth 700 gen2) I mean the volume levels aren't even close I usually don't play at max volume on the a50's and all the other sets are always at max volume which is my biggest dissapointment with all of them really. Also if you're into mic monitoring the a50's have them all beat hands down it is extremely loud and I turn that down as well and wish it was just a little louder on the other sets as well..also the mic monitoring on the 7x when it's at max can sound distorted but it's not the end of the world.

All headsets were and are on their latest firmwares for anyone thinking old firmware could be affecting my judgement. Hopefully this helped someone and if anyone has any specific questions I don't mind answering!

This is false.. Multiple people have said that the 7x is the one to buy over any other steel series headsets including the 9x they said the build quality was good enough. And the sound is basically the same to be honest. Not worth the extra money get the 7x

As long as nobody cares about the bluetooth and the fact that there are no changable presets on the headset itself (compared to the 4 on the 9x) I'd say the 7x are the ones to go with out of the two. It's also worth mentioning that there are more frequency sliders on the 9x as apposed to the 7x in the computer eq application. Also the sidetone (mic monitoring) feature on the 7x can sound distorted hearing your own voice when moderately talking- yelling which you don't get on the 9x (I verified this wasn't a lemon by exchanging my first 7x and having the same result on both.

Errr.. the 7x MSRP is $149, the 9x is $199 isn't it? The 9x is supposedly the more premium model, but people have had more technical issues with it, and a few firmware updates I believe have fixed some issues. Again, I could be wrong here, but the 7x is the lower priced option, and same price as the 7p which will not work wirelessly with the Xbox Series X.
