I was thinking if I replaced or supplemented my motion detectors with 2 of these cameras (which do person detection), this would solve my problem. I have Eufy cameras but am not sure how to link person detection to keeping my lights on. With the Samsung Cameras, since they link in the hub it should be easy. Best care scenario, they work exactly like I want them to. Worst case scenario, they don't and I put them up as non-critical cams in other parts of my home (laundry room? office? etc.). Either way, the cost the same as motion detectors so, I can justify the expenditure (to myself, because I'm cheap, lol) as attempting to buy better motion detectors
Anyway, I was able to set up a camera in my kitchen to essentially replace the motion sensor which I use(d) to activate the light switch. Now, no matter where my cats go, they don't activate the light switch, only people do. These cameras are serious business. The boons so far, there's no cooldown on person or motion detection. Not sure what algorithm is being used but person detection has been fairly consistent. Since it's using power, I no longer have to worry about batteries like I did with motion sensors. Smartthings automation can use the motion OR person detection of the camera for controlling switches, bulbs and other devices. Ultimately, what I now have a is a spot-on accurate motion detecting device with the capability to record whatever it detects. As I mentioned, the downside is that in Alexa, the cameras just have an on/off button, lol - they don't set up as motion sensors or cameras at all so I will have to likely buy a z-wave/zigbee bulb for my Family Room lamp before I can utilize the camera to automate it.
Only time can tell if the tradeoffs are worth it. Either way, I really have no regrets on purchasing them.
