Brown rice syrup is worse for you than sugar and corn syrup. You want something with less sugar get something with sweated with coconut palm sugar. Or make your own bars.
I'm with you. I can't stand products with chia in them because of this. No problem with flavor, but they really get wedged between my teeth and don't come out with anything less than floss.

Most of the unfavorable reviews focus on how tiny this bar is, but that's the selling point. It's one of the most compact snacks that actually fits in your pocket, and is not susceptible to it being ruined from getting crushed because it's super dense to begin with.

You do need to be mindful of how you use this snack, in that there is an activation period. It works best when used with water, and consumed before you start getting really hungry. Water will bulk up the chia in your stomach, and it takes a while (supposedly ~15m) for that feedback to hit your brain.

I find myself usually using this on days where I didn't have control over one or more of my meals. e.g., calorically dense but not filling, mandatory/mediocre, having to skip due to a variety of reasons, etc.

If you have no interest in weight or diet control and simply like this for the snack factor, then of course, it's a perfectly good snack, though there isn't a lot of it, of course. I tried it without looking at the label, and it sure tasted like real food with simple ingredients, and the ingredient label seemed to back that up, so no complaints there.
I'd totally agree with everything you said, and yeah...I think these are realllly boring tasting. I got so sick of them I couldn't finish the box I ordered, but as far as controlling appetite, they definitely do that.
