Whenever I read about routers I've read a mixed bag of responses with just one near-constant.

"Buy Asus", so that's probably where I'll be looking for my next router.

I got this from Walmart 6 months ago, same price. It didn't last long. It kept disconnecting wireless and wired connection. I updated the firmware and didn't fix it. Good luck. I have read other issues with this line of Netgear routers. Check /r/Netgear on Reddit.

Replaced all Netgear wireless with Ubiquity AP. Very happy with it.

If anyone jumps on this router here are the cliff notes to work around problems and maximize stability and performance, copy and pasted from /u/raw_enha on Reddit:

Enable AX mode: ON. I paid for an AX router, and I'll be damned if I have to turn off the element that provides high speed for the new tech.

LAN Setup: address reservations defined for ALL devices. This was actually the last thing I did and seemed to be the final element that led to 100% stability.

QoS: OFF. Just don't...everything I've read for years including an article at Tom's Hardware says Negear QoS is more trouble than it's worth.

Enable Implicit Beamforming: OFF. Implicit beamforming isn't good enough and seems to create deadzones that aren't otherwise there. If it was a higher performing unit and had explicit, that might be better.

Enable Airtime Fairness: ON. Having this on has been more stable than off and is supposedly better for compatibility. I had no performance changes, so leaving it on.

Turn UPnP On: OFF. This should be turned off for security.

Hopefully this will help you get the most out of this router until a SlickDeal on something better comes along.

Just picked this up at a local Walmart (Bayonne, NJ, zip 07002) for $64.50, which seems to be the going price on eBay for open box / used ones. Was going to pull the trigger at $99 but checked Brickseek on a whim and saved another $35. If your local Walmart stocks these, check Brickseek [brickseek.com] to see if they might be on clearance for pickup.

And my last TWO Asus routers died in less than a year.

So. I've been getting access denied from multiple routers on diff websites, then I'm okay when I go directly from the modem or use my cell service. What is going on ?

Sure want to try out Wifi6 3000 to go along with a couple of devices we have that'll support it, but also don't want a router that doesn't work right out of the box!

I'm thinking of doing the same. What setup do you have with ubiquity?

The AX4 is rated towards the bottom of CR's wireless router rankings
