I ordered mine on the 14th. It shipped on the 20th and it's expected to be delivered tomorrow on the 22nd. It shipped from El Paso and I live in the Dallas area.
I'm relaxed. But I pity the poor soul that does not keep a close watch on their finances, including pending charges. A large company like Dell should have far better payment management systems. Heck, Dell owns Boomi (middleware solution that should be used to manage their ESB and queues). That's an easy way to avoid these problems if they claim it was a volume issue.
The merchant may only authorize the full amount agreed to at time of purchase, not a "random" value that is 30% higher than the purchase. For many, that could mean tying up funds needed for other purchases.
I don't think it is at all unreasonable to expect better from a billion dollar company. More importantly, when contacted about the error, their CS team is ill-equipped, ill-informed, or simply not empowered to take proper corrective action.
Sadly, Dell has the worst CS in the world. They could learn a hundred things from Amazon in that regard.
As expected, Dell's incompetence continues as usual. Now I'll be wasting at least 45 minutes on the phone with their CS team to justify how they screwed up and need to fix this. Mind you, it won't be easy, I'll have to prove to them they were wrong. Super fun use of my time.
@keung - You must have (a) more time on your hands or (b) value your time less than I value mine. I shouldn't have to deal with this insanity from Dell.
3200mhz is actually cheaper and more often discount than 2666Mhz
People need to relax it is preauthorized payment system error
Also DELL do correct mistake even if it takes a while , go complain IF the charge is actually incorrect or something is missing like reward etc

I have all evidence (coupon code, amount it was for, order on 1/14, Paypal itemized bill showing amount that should have been charged, etc.). And, as expected, Dell CS 1st line cannot process all of this in parallel. Has to be spoon fed. After giving them all of that info, waiting for 5 minutes, surprise, surprise, they come back and say: "Sir, that coupon code is invalid".
No kidding. It wasn't on 1/14 when I placed my order. SMH
BTW, does anyone have a simple screenshot of the order page with the discount prior to submitting their order? Going forward, I will be taking those in addition to a snap of the order confirmation. If so, rep for a PM with that image.
I paid with PayPal without logging in. I got an email from Dell when they confirmed my order. The subject line is 'Your Dell Order has been confirmed'. That email has the details of the price paid. Did you get anything like that? Sorry that you have to go thru this.

I did. It clearly stated they charged PayPal $625.40 at the bottom, but it included a subtotal that reflected $1,038.79.
So the initial e-mail conflicts with itself (but the first pre-auth on 1/14 was $625.40.
Mine was delivered today I put 16 gb of ram in it and a 2tb 3.5 inch hard drive which it comes with the SATA cable for but no screws. Pretty good machine with those improvements.
Still been trying a few times a day, but with everyone seeing theirs shipped, I'm guessing there aren't any orders left for anyone to cancel to get the coupon to work one last time.
It comes with 2933hz speed, right , which ones you installed for 16gb? Did you discard the 8gb?
And sabulhas is offering to sell another member the Dell 1xR8 8GB stick that came with their unit. Would be a perfect match to bring your machine up to 16GB.

They said it was "free express delivery". Since when does express delivery take 7 days? What's their "regular delivery"? Mine was supposed to be here today, but I can almost guarantee it won't ... making it 9-day "express" delivery.

Mine was expedited shipping as well, fastest way to reach out is on order page click on chat. They will make up with some credit back to card as they're didn't honor expedited shipping . Also the home delivery dates moved ahead by few days as they deliver weekends for home address shipping
