For everyone having issues putting the last joint together, you're doing it wrong, you're not supposed to try to strong arm it, put it on its side, step on the short side with your foot and easily join. Here's a video for how to put army cots together

I camp in the living room on an air mattress when the wife gets mad at me after 8pm. I would also like to know.

I own this cot and have had to sleep in the living room more than once. I understand. The cot itself is fine, but you'll want some kind of cushy layer (one of those foam mattresses) for longer periods of time away from the bed. For the bigger fellas/ladies, I would also recommend elevating the head of the cot a few inches (bricks, two-by-fours, whatever). Made a difference for me.

Vacation tip: Depending on family size - If you are staying in a hotel and need an extra "bed", sometimes they will charge you for a cot or they do not allow for fire safety purposes. Have one of these and it solves your problem. You can bring this on a plane but it will count as a carry on. We used this at a few hotels since we are a family of 4 with 2 older children (male and female). So two beds were not enough. This cot was a life saver and my son had no issue sleeping on it. It is a pain to assemble it and we had to disassemble it every night. However we bought one at a local Walmart in the city we were first visiting (Vegas). I was going to leave it after our trip but my wife said to bring it on the plane. I did not have a carryon bag but they let me through.

Comfortable, but it is a pain to assemble it. Hard to stretch the final crossbar.

The trick is to wet the surface down allowing it to stretch and when it dries it shrinks.

I bought a few of these last year for the homeless.
I found it is hard to stretch the fabric out to insert the end-rail.
The material is steel good strong but quite heavy.
For my camping, I used aluminum lighter weight.
You have to make the cot stand up and use your foot to assemble the second cross bar.

Have version 1, I only slept on it twice and I ended up giving it to my brother. Woke up both times with an achy back and it was real uncomfortable, I was tossing and turning frequently.

Difficulty to assemble and take it down 4/5. Do not buy if you have weak hands. Better to go with a $35 cot available in Costco in store right now.
