I had the 5x sapphire and now have the 6 sapphire DLC. I agree with J-Cam. DLC is a must if you dont like the bezel to scratch up. The software on the 6 series is infinitely better than the 5 series. You will notice major improvements in access to information and data functionality on the unit. Better battery life was another perk.

I also found that the X series does not work for my wrists. I dont have tiny wrists but found that my forearms are much larger than my wrist and it drove the watch onto my wrist bones. There, the watch would rub and cause irritation, redness and eventually rubbed the hair off my wrist bones. The 5 series only had one watch band/strap.
On the smaller 6 (not X, not S) the watch fit better. It loses 2 data fields while active and some battery life, but was on par and often better than the 5x over a week of use. It has more data fields than the 5X but I feel like my use of those is low compared to some. Depending on activity, my needs are distance, HR, time, and maybe vertical up and down. In backpacking, I sometimes use the compass and map at intersections.

Main takeaways from years of use, you should absolutely try them on before buying to ensure fit. DLC reduces most scratches. The 6 series software is superior and worth buying over the 5.
Gpscity has a refurb with Garmin warranty for $519. Refurbs good as new in my experience.
I got a 6 pro for Christmas and would highly recommend the Sapphire instead if you can afford it. I've only run with it and done cardio, but the paint is already coming off some places on the bezel from minor stuff like accidentally bumping a door frame. The Sapphire has a tougher "diamond like coating" on the bezel.

Also, the charging cord that comes with these is short and awkward, but you can buy replacement aftermarket ones on Amazon for 2 / $10 that are longer and easier to connect. DC rainmaker has a short video on them.

If you are a data geek/freak, Garmin would be better IMHO.

If you want 99% of what the F6 has but with a lighter weight and at a slightly lower cost, check out the FR945. I ended up with the FR945 instead of the F6 because of the lower weight for running. The screen is slightly smaller, and the bezel is not metal. At the same time, there is no paint or anything to chip on the FR945. The only feature missing from the F6 is the expedition mode (mainly a battery-saving function), but you can mimic that on the FR945 via individual settings.

Regarding the screen, I've had a protector from Supershieldz (<$10 for three on Amazon) for about six months now without a problem. I learned the hard way that the Gorilla Glass on the watch isn't as scratch resistant as I expected it to be.

The Garmin is less of a smart watch and aimed at athletes. It doesn't have the same level of apps or connectivity with your phone as the Samsung. The screen is different and doesn't require a backlight to work but also isn't as crisp as on the Samsung. The Fenix also doesn't have a touch screen, which you wouldn't want on a watch like that anyway.

Net: It all comes down to what you're looking for. If you're looking for a smart watch, go with the Samsung. If you're an athlete, then go with the Fenix.

Could you please send us a pic? I'd like to see how your bezel looks.

Got a Fenix 5X Plus Sapphire for $379 for Christmas a year ago in 2019 and have loved it. I have seen it cheaper since. Garmin watches are awesome fitness watches but poor smart watches. If you don't know why you want the more expensive Garmin, you should research the cheaper one$.

Sapphire has a sapphire lens and DLC( diamond like coating) coating around the entire watch making it extremely durable. No need to use a protective cover because it take a beating but looks pristine. the pro uses Gorilla glass. There are some slight variations on brightness in the sun but those are debatable. Sapphire is considered the premium line below the solar/ titanium which I hear scratched easier. Sapphire is the top tier, 6x pro is just a hair below saphire( som prefer it) then the 6 then 6s

Samsung is like 4 cylinder hatchback fenix is more like a 4by 4 all terrain vehicle only with much better gas mileage. They both do some things the same but one does them in extreme detail with endless amounts of data.

I agree. Smart watch - Apple or Samsung. Racing - Garmin. Try to swipe or even tap a touch screen while sweating or going through a water/mud obstacle course.

I had the 6x Pro (non saphire) for over a year now. Excellent battery life. It does have a few scratches and bumps, but nothing that is impacting the performance.
