I am aware of a couple of places to find Garmin coupons:

- The "Miles" app - install it and search for Garmin.
- Your health insurance - most have a 20% discount for Garmin.
- Employee discounts/perks from your work.
Thank you!

I was able to find a 20% coupon from my insurance!

Lowered price but since the August 2020 deal for the Fenix 5 plus (refurb) at 250, I'm good with holding out for a few seasons.

Fenix 5 for sub-$220 or 5+ for sub-$300 is where it's at.

GPSCity sells new and refurb models with no sales tax to most customers.

I have a Fenix 5 saphire, so a couple generations old, and I think it's a great device. Sure it's not an Apple Watch so I can't text on it and run all sorts of crazy apps on it but that's not what I want in a smartwatch.

I don't run marathons but I love to go on 100+ mile backpacking trips and I find this watch perfect for it. Battery life is great. It will last me a week if I don't do any GPS tracking but if I do active tracking I can still get 2 days worth but it takes so little to charge I don't worry about it that much. I can load GPX data for navigation but I usually don't because I find myself staring at my watch for the directions instead of looking where I'm going. You can sync the data with strava or other fitness apps or just use the Garmin App to keep track of your data.

When I'm not backpacking I find it useful to read phone notifications but they aren't actionable through the watch. The actual watch has held up well. Not a scratch on the glass but paint has definitely worn off at the corner edges the watch face and I've broken plenty of wrist bands.

I had the 5x sapphire and now have the 6 sapphire DLC. I agree with J-Cam. DLC is a must if you dont like the bezel to scratch up. The software on the 6 series is infinitely better than the 5 series. You will notice major improvements in access to information and data functionality on the unit. Better battery life was another perk.

I also found that the X series does not work for my wrists. I dont have tiny wrists but found that my forearms are much larger than my wrist and it drove the watch onto my wrist bones. There, the watch would rub and cause irritation, redness and eventually rubbed the hair off my wrist bones. The 5 series only had one watch band/strap.
On the smaller 6 (not X, not S) the watch fit better. It loses 2 data fields while active and some battery life, but was on par and often better than the 5x over a week of use. It has more data fields than the 5X but I feel like my use of those is low compared to some. Depending on activity, my needs are distance, HR, time, and maybe vertical up and down. In backpacking, I sometimes use the compass and map at intersections.

Main takeaways from years of use, you should absolutely try them on before buying to ensure fit. DLC reduces most scratches. The 6 series software is superior and worth buying over the 5.
The x series, at least for the 5, had way better routing which is a must for ultras. I wish the smaller watch had that. I'd have to go with the x or nothing for the maps and routing, but also 51mm is huge. I wouldn't want to go much bigger than my aw 3, but unfortunately it's x series or nothing since the full nav features are mandatory for me.
