Is it possible to load pfsense on these small streaming boxes? Or use them for anything other than streaming?

They seem like small lower power general purpose computers.

Although firestick is pretty simple to use it has its limitations. Mostly with storage.
These android boxes have access to the play store and sideloaded apps. For me these give much more

Actually this has Android TV 10, and its performance is similar to a 4k firetv stick, but there are a few caveats about it too.. If you look for a you tube video on this a good one is from a LON.TV. Not sure how complete the play store is, but it is the android TV variant, and side loading is always a option too..

Bear in mind, although Firestick lacks storage, storage can de added, with usb OTG cable.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXAC...g=aftvn-20

Also Firestick Officially Supports Netflix 4k, Disney 4K, Prime Video 4K...
This Android box will not do any of those in 4K, officially.

Apparently watching some videos, it is complete compared to any well-known brand android TV. Any Android TV has the complete play store, because many applications are not optimized for that system (android TV) but you can still install apks by means of a few movements. in terms of performance is a few steps above the Xiaomi Mi Box almost on par with the new Chromecast with android TV. It has android 10 and the necessary certificates for applications like Netflix to play you in 4k. The only pdrawback that I see is that it doesn't have any extra connection such as extra USB, only the USB - C input. I think that like the new Chromecast you can connect a Hub but it already means an extra expense of $ 25 If you want to expand the memory and connect a device such as an extra mouse or usb joystick.
(PS sorry my English if it was not very well, it is not my native language and help me from Google translate)

I ordered.... was on the fence last post and went off sale before I could order. Reviews and videos seem really promising - I watched a ton. What swayed me to give it a go was the ability to run xbox streaming both local and game pass.. and also GeForce now.... plus can do all the same great cable cutter apps (not available on app stores) firetv does.
Bonus - live TV app of Android tv is SUPER under rated and never talked about.

edit also its only $30 so even if I only get a yr or 2 outta it ill be happy

I have this and multiple Fire TVs/sticks. Android TV is definitely a better experience than Amazon's, and access to Play Store is a plus in the Dynalink's favor. Performance seems about the same to me.

The only issue I wish I didn't have is that this doesn't work with Samsung for controlling the TV itself. Will need remotes if you have Samsung.
